Conducted the University of Johannesburg accreditation application to the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) (2005) – commended by the CIMA accreditation representative on the excellence of the documentation submitted for accreditation.
TEACHING INNOVATION
Teaching innovations implemented to enhance the employability and value-add of students
Introduced topic-based lecturing in the Honours module Portfolio Management incorporating academic articles for each topic and Excel-based solutions in the module and examinations for portfolio performance evaluation and attribution (2009).
Introduced an Excel component as part of the syllabus of the Honours module in Quantitative Investment Analysis as well as the examination where students had to build optimized investment portfolios (2008).
Initiated a project for students taking Investment Management 3B where they had to compile and manage an electronic simulated portfolio over a period of three months and reflect on their decisions made over the period as well as conduct a performance analysis on their portfolios (2003).

COLLABORATION WITH OTHERS
PROFESSIONAL BODIES
Worked closely with two of the Chief Executive Officers of the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), Mr Sakkie van der Merwe and Mr John Arnesen as well as the Director of the Centre for Financial Planning Law at the University of the Free State, Adv Wessel Oosthuizen in developing the Financial Planning qualifications for the Department of Accounting at RAU/Department of Finance and Investment Management at UJ.
Built good relationship with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) during the re-accreditation process of the qualifications of the University of Johannesburg and their South African office with the involvement of the Department of Finance and Investment Management in the learnerships offered at Nedbank, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), and CitiBank.
OVERSEAS UNIVERSITIES
Visited the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands during April 2007 and had discussions with Prof Bas J.M. Werker (Head of Department of Finance); Prof Frank de Jong (program director of the MSc Finance); and Prof Steven Ongena (Research Coordinator Finance) regarding an agreement for University of Johannesburg students to complete an MSc Finance programme at Tilburg University.
Two students of the Department of Finance and Investment Management at the University of Johannesburg, Philip Mitchley and Jordy Hopkins, started their MSc Finance degrees at the University of Tilburg in August 2007, and both completed their degrees in 2008.
