System Functionality Overview

Stowed Deploying Deorbiting

Wireless

ELECTRONICS

• Software

• Iterative Design

• Circuit Board Fabrication

• Testing

Cutting Wire Testing

MATERIALS & METHODS

• Energy loss into baseplate

• Kapton and graphite thermal gasket ineffective

• Non-Conductive, high temperature insulators

Film

MATERIALS AND CONSIDERATION

• Mylar film

• No longer pressurized

• Vacuum Testing

Inflatable

• 5 mil Polyethylene Mylar

• Mylar inflatable subjected to 100 millitorr pressure.

• Vacuum packed test balloon successfully folded in baseplate.

• Two Sphere designs – Gore (Orange Slices) and Soccer Ball Pattern.

MATERIALS AND DESIGN

Tether/Alternate Baseplate

• SMA Latch

• Spring loaded door

• Four point tether

• Spring assisted deployment

Thermal Analysis

• Extensive orbit based thermal calculations ready for verification at NASA Langley Research Center

• Conclusive evidence of successful sublimation of benzoic acid

• Systems Tool Kit (STK) will also assist orbit thermal model

Alternative Heating

TITLE

• Assuming solar heating will not sublimate the benzoic acid

• Using a E-6 heating element to help start the sublimating process

Benzoic Acid

APPLICATION METHODS

• NASA• Acetamide w/ melamine dye• Benzoic Acid w/ melamine dye• Pyrazole w/ melamine dye

• ODU• Benzoic Acid• Not worried about sublimation rate

• Apply it within the balloon• Keep the acid within the balloon during

vacuum testing• Even coating
