March Mission of the Month:
Food Pantry of First Church in
Albany
Beth Colbert
“Give of yourself, give as much as you can! And
you can always, always give something, even if
only kindness! … Give and you shall receive,
much more than you would have ever thought possible. Give, give again and again … No one
has ever become poor from giving!”
The Food Pantry of the First Church in Albanis really a continuation of the centuries old custoof taking care of widows, orphans and the homethrough the Deacons Fund.
Managed by a Community Outreach Worker, anstaffed by volunteers, First Church’s food pantryserves the people of their neighborhood. The foo
pantry is currently serving 250 families, many ofthem several times a month. Monthly supplies food and other grocery store essentials, such asdiapers and toothpaste, are distributed.
In addition to providing food and grocery items, they get continuous requests for dish soap, HotCocoa, Jelly (they have a lot of peanut butter bu jelly), and toothpaste & tooth brushes. Most of families are on food stamps and are unable topurchase these items with their food stamps, or tare just "nice to have" items. Most children wolove a nice cup of hot cocoa one these chillymornings.
And as always, monetary contributions are accepas well. There are many items the food pantryactually purchases from the Regional Food bank round out the food selections for the families. TRegional Food Bank provides USDA items free ocharge.
Your Mission of the Month contribution of foodfinancial support will go directly to support this
crucial mission.

Table Grace for March:
May the road rise to meet you,

Choose Alternatives to Plastic Easter Grass
Plastic comes from petroleum and there are few uses for Easter grass afterthe holiday has come and gone. Instead, of using plastic Easter grass, linethe basket with paper from your shredder. If you don't have a shredder, trygetting some shreds from a friend who works in an office. When you'redone, you can recycle the paper or put it right into the compost bin.
