EVALUATION

This semester I have really enjoyed engaging with Mondays Challenges and the 3 week project “Time and Motion”. Having the Monday Challenges has really made me think, that there is more to an idea than just the idea itself. The more creative and playful you are, the more you will get out of your work, as it could lead to new processes and unu-sual outcomes.

Starting with the project “Challenging a Pencil” and then onto the other challenges has let me be more playful and imaginative, making things out of pencils, using different ma-terials, manipulating paper, experimenting with photography and layout. I liked how my pencil project turned out, as i wasnt expecting to be building pencil furntiure!! But overall was very fun to do and I think they came out really well. I really like the drawing day, where we did loads of sketches in a limited time and then took them down to about 6 words then randomly put two words together. From this the, I illustrated them and also created two animations which i think turned out very well. Paper maniuplation task was also very interesting as it helped me understand that there arent very many limitations with paper folding and that it can create anything you want, by simply twisting, folding, crunching, ripping etc

Time and Motion project, I felt let me explore things I wouldnt of explored and let me also look into the area of graphic design which I like “Packaging”. From doing this project it has helped me realise that I can integrate what my interests are into all projects instead of doing what the project outlines, I need to think beyond the brief instead of the just the brief itself.

The other project i enjoyed was the “Contrast Logo” project as I like working on Illustrator and discovering new shapes, tools and visulations of ideas in other ways. I went beyond the breif and made a small animation of my chosen logo and feel that anything you design can somehow be brought to life and doesnt have to be page ridden. I have learnt a lot in this semester, playing, creating, learning, printing and problem solving. In a way I feel that I have become more willing to explore new ideas in different ways, compared to last year, which will benefit my work and imagination more. Also, I have learnt that there is no wrong answer, and that if something does fail then it is “Happy Failure” . This quote will stick with me throughout my years at Epsom!

I have explored pencils, sharpening’s, paper, lino cutting, photography, flash software (making animations), illustrations and my imaginative mind. These have all contributed to me being more playful and creative when thinking of ideas, trying to think of other ways “out of the box” instead of just thinking “outside the box”.

When thinking of any idea, I now think about what I can pull out of that idea whatever it may be. I then play around and think of different directions I could go with it, instead of sticking with the original idea.

Overall, the last semester I have really enjoyed, but I still feel I need to challenge myself a bit more, by bringing my ideas to life and showing what i can really do with my ideas.
