Advance Steel A software dedicated to create steel structure models and generate fabrication documents: detail drawings, CNC data, BoM lists.
Revit Steel and Concrete Extension Allow users to transfer models between Revit and Advance Steel / Concrete, or other software. Using the GTC format when transferring between Revit and Advance Steel has the advantage that section profiles are mapped to native Revit beam families.
Files transferred - .gtc is the main format used by the plug-in - Other supported formats are: IFC, CIS/2, PSS, SDNF

Settings
Advance Steel and Advance Concrete Revit plug-in 2015
Settings dialog is accessible from the Revit plug-in ribbon command
It offers the following options: • Path configuration for Revit library –
Steel section definitions
• Turns on/off the section mapping
functionality
• Allows manual mapping definitions to
get saved in the database
• Allows the import of Plate objects in
Revit
• Disable the automatic Revit joint for
steel beams during import
Exports shortening to Advance Steel for beams joined automatically by Revit
Turns on/off the import/export of only structural elements (beams, columns, etc.)
Level import/export
• Levels are transferred between Revit and Advance Steel
• In Advance Steel the levels are handled by the Project Explorer.
• When importing in Revit, the level is created and objects are attached to it accordingly
Advance Steel and Advance Concrete Revit plug-in 2015
• Levels that don’t have objects attached to them are not transferred
• In Advance Steel, objects are associated to levels, but not attached to them.
Synchronization
• Synchronization option allows the user to update the modifications done without having to re-import the whole structure.
• Its done by comparing an exported GTC file from the modified model with the current model
• All modifications will appear in a list
• List content can be filtered
• The user can apply the modifications partially or totally through a series of options

Section mapping
• Why do we need a mapping database while transferring via .gtc? – Section name different between software.
– For example the Advance Steel section HEA400 is named as HE400A in Revit. Mapping database will associate the two names and realize the import with the proper section
• What is the mapping process used during transfer
Advance Steel and Advance Concrete Revit plug-in 2015
Section mapping
• Mapping database is GTCMapping2015.mdb
It can be found in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance\Data
• It supports mapping definition for profiles, profile rotation , bolts and materials
Advance Steel and Advance Concrete Revit plug-in 2015
• Mapping can exist as : - 1 to 1 mapping, where each section size is mapped individually - Rule based mapping, where a certain rule using tokens will allow the mapping of an entire class in one definition line • Current version of the Advance Steel and Concrete Revit extension contains mapping
for the most used sections from U.S. and U.K. Revit libraries • All manual mappings requested by Advance Steel or Revit during import are saved in
Advance Steel and Advance Concrete Revit plug-in 2015
• the database for further use as one to one mapping.
• Mapping configuration can be made country dependent, which allows specific country mapping selectable during import/export
