Re: Communications position at Communications Security Establishment of Canada (CSEC)

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my interest in a communications position with the Communications Security Establishment of Canada for the summer of 2014.

Currently, I am attending Ryerson University as a second year History student, with a current GPA of 3.53. I focus mystudies on the history of terrorism, intelligence, espionage, and global conflict. My time at Ryerson University hastaught me a great deal about myself and what I am capable of doing if I apply myself. I have become increasinglyself-motivated and a highly ambitious individual with an insatiable need for learning and self-improvement. I havefound that the research, analysis, and critical thinking skills that I have learned at Ryerson can be applied to manyaspects of my life, and I find myself constantly using them. It is with these skills and with this mindset that I approachthe Communications Security Establishment of Canada, with a positive outlook that my work will be of the highestquality.

In addition to studying History, I am an active member of the Ryerson History Society, and the IID, both of whichorganize a variety of events and seminars to raise student awareness and occasionally raise money for charity. Inaddition to my extra-curricular activities at school, I am also a volunteer for Ryerson's VAST program (Volunteers

Assisting Students and Teachers), which places me at an inner-city school where I can assist both the teacher andthe students in the daily lessons. These achievements demonstrate that I am able to simultaneously excel in myschoolwork as well as give back to my community by working with under-privileged youth and while raisingawareness and money for various causes and charities.

The summers of 2013, 2012, and 2011, I worked at Camp U of T as the instructor for the Digital Media camp. Myresponsibilities included maintaining order and discipline among the campers as well as the assistant instructors whoaided me in the delivery of the daily lessons. Both my staff and the campers respected my rules and my authority, and as a result my camp had very few issues to resolve, disciplinary or otherwise. Upon final review at the end of each summer, my superiors in both cases mentioned that I had a very well-run camp, with a grand majority of thecampers and their parents being very satisfied with the camp and its content. These experiences as a leader andmentor to other staff and the campers allowed me to gain an understanding of what it takes to run a team effectivelyand efficiently, and it is my hope that I can extend that skill set to help my team at the Communications SecurityEstablishment of Canada run smoothly as well.

I feel that my resume reflects success in a variety of academic, volunteer and employment environments. I love achallenge and my previous life experience have demonstrated that I enjoy working with people. Balancingschoolwork and volunteering has taught me to plan my time efficiently and how to be a leader and a mentor. It hasalso taught me that discipline and hard work are essential components in achieving my goals. I am a tremendouslymotivated individual and enjoy being part of a team. I believe that these qualities would make me an excellent leader and an asset to the Unit Head presiding over me.

I am available for an interview at your convenience. I can be contacted at (905) 599-5411 (cell) or atalex.sawicki@ryerson.ca. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

 Alex Sawicki
