For more details and questions don`t hesitate to ask us. Thank you for your trust! Team Division of Radiation Oncology, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich (in cooperation with CHUV Lausanne) contact: onkologie@vetclinics.uzh.ch
What is the study duration? What are the costs of participation?
• 5 days total hospital stay at the Small Animal Clinic, University of Zurich
• Follow-up: after 2, 4, 6 weeks • Follow-up: after 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 months
• Cost participation for therapy: CHF 650.- (instead of CHF 3'500.-)
• Follow-up: free of cost
Possible advantages of participation?
Possible disadvantages of participation?
• You`re supporting cancer research • Your cat will be treated with the
standard treatment therapy (10 sessions) or with an experimental treatment (1 session)
• Lower costs
• Maybe more side effects with FLASH-Radiotherapy, because it`s still experimental
• General anesthesia- and radiotherapy-risks (discussed individually)
Treatment schedule
Conventional Radiotherapy FLASH-Radiotherapy
Treatment will be allocated randomly (by chance)
5 days total hospital stay at the Tierspital Zurich • Radiotherapy with the linear accelerator
at the Tierspital Zurich • Radiotherapy duration 1-2 Min;
2x daily, 5 consecutive days
• Ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy (100x faster) with FLASH-RT prototype, CHUV Lausanne
• Radiotherapy duration <1 Sec; only 1 unit of radiotherapy
Follow-ups: after 2, 4, 6 weeks and after 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 months
Goals of the project
• Compare treatment outcome after 10 conventional vs. 1 FLASH-session • Future improvement of radiotherapy with fewer treatments / anesthesias • Comparability of the side effects of both treatments • Cancer research – translation to human medicine
