Community Service Project

By: Marci Heffner

My service learning… I did various things for my community

service project in F.Y.E such as donating blood, working at a food bank, and washing cars.

However the majority of my community service hours, I volunteered at Relay For Life.

About America’s Second Harvest... America's Second Harvest is the nation's

largest charitable hunger-relief organization.

The America's Second Harvest Network secures and distributes nearly 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.

Stuffing envelopes… During the first semester, I volunteered at

the Second Harvest Food Bank with many of my fellow classmates.

We stuffed envelopes that were asking people to donate to the food bank.

About Relay For Life… Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event

designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society.

The Car Wash… I worked at a car wash to help raise money

for Relay For Life. We raised over two hundred dollars!

The Car Wash… We had the best time

washing cars in the Sonny’s Barbeque parking lot.

I even got to meet a Remerton officer named Robert.

The Car Wash… Washing the tires…

squeaky clean!

Who says washing cars isn’t fun?

Relay Day!!! On April 13, 2007 Valdosta State University

hosted Relay For Life on the front lawn of campus.

I participated on the F.Y.E team with many of my classmates.

Every team must have a booth and sell something, our booth had tie-dye towels!

Tie-Dye Fun! Having fun with

Elizabeth making a tie-dye towel!

The money that we raised in the booth, also went to the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life activities… At every Relay For Life there are fun

activities to keep everyone awake and entertained.

I participated in a water balloon throwing contest and freeze tag…which I won!

I also helped Sebastien and Bobby with the woman-less pageant.

Our Woman… Thanks to everyone’s

help and Sebastien's skill, he won second place and Miss. Congeniality!

Thanks for making us proud Sebastien!!!

More fun from Relay…

Why community service is important... Community service is an important extra-

curricular activity that everyone should experience.

I really feel fortunate, and I am glad I can give back to the community that has helped me.

Doing community service has taught me most importantly to be humble and thankful for everything I have.
