Focus on learning expectations for students - not how students get there

Rationale for Text Complexity

K-12 texts have become easier; college texts have not. College textbooks, workplace texts, and newspapers are more demanding than materials used in 12th grade.

Instruction with HS texts is heavily scaffolded while students are expected to read independently in college.

The reading load in college is substantially more than what students typically experience in lower grades.
