Library Rules• Students may use library under

teacher supervision.• Eating and drinking are not allowed.• Students who are completing class

assignments get priority on computer usage.

• Students may talk softly.

Textbook & Library Book Circulation Policies

• Students must have ID #s to check out library and textbooks.

• Students may check out up to two library books at CMS. Three are allowed at THMS.

• Library books are due every two weeks.

2• Students must bring back the library

book for renewal.• Reference books (ie. encyclopedias,

atlas, indexes) for library use only.• Magazines must remain in library at

CMS. They may be checked out at THMS for 2 days.

• Textbooks are due before checking out at the end of the school year.

3• Students must return books back

to library to remain eligible for extra curricular activities, participate in 8th grade commencement activities, receive transcripts, and/or transfer to another school.

Computer Usage

• A student ID and password is needed to access the computers at the library and computer lab

• Students will save information in their lockers/files and print work from an outside printer.

Computer Usage 2• The password is different for the Zangle

grade program.• Students will locate books from the

remaining computer terminals. They are configured with the Destiny or OPAC library circulation system.

OPAC System

• Search for books by keyword, title, author, subject, call number, series

• Information on location & availability will appear

Follett Destiny

Fiction Books

• The library books are organized by fiction and non-fiction.

• Fiction books will either be hardcover or paperback & organized alphabetically by author’s last name

• The hard cover book will have a label on the left corner

FIC, first 3 letters of authors last name

• Paperback will be placed on wire shelves

Non-Fiction

• Non-Fiction titles are labeled by Dewey Decimal System

• The book will be labeled Dewey #, first three letters subject

or author’s last name

• 100-199-Philosophy & Psychology• 200-299-Religion• 300-399-Social Sciences• 400-499-Languages• 500-599-Science & Mathematics

• 600-699-Technology (tools & crafts) & Applied Science

• 700-799-Arts & Recreation• 800-899-Literature• 900-999-History, Geography, &

Biography• 741.5-Graphic novels

Online Databases• Online databases provide a wealth of peer reviewed

information on academic subjects.

• Colton High School has EBSCO and Gale databases available for use on any computer with internet access. Click to Academics-Library on the CHS website for the information.
