ÉCOLE PETER GREER SCHOOLNEWSLETTER
Mrs. Marion Barnes – Principal
Mrs. Cerise Campbell – Administrative Secretary
Dear Families of Peter Greer –
Welcome to the month of May and spring! It is
such a good feeling to have longer days, birds
chirping in the trees and the warmth of the
sunshine around us. The playground is being well
used again, and children are enjoying being outside
much more. At this time of the year we do ask
everyone to be aware that dogs are not allowed on
school premises and gentle reminders to neighbours
about such would be greatly appreciated. We want
to keep our grounds clean and healthy for our
students.
Congratulations to Brooklyn, Carolyn, Declan, and
Lindsay who represented Peter Greer at the “Battle
of the Books” finals at Rutland Elementary School,
April 24th. Twenty-two schools entered the
competition and these students brought home
“gold” to Peter Greer!
Congratulations to the “Social Justice Group” who
have been fulfilling their commitment to “serve
others” this year. This year they have sponsored:
! Halloween for Hunger (supporting
the local Food Bank)
! Winter Clothing Drive (free clothing
to local families)
! Movie fundraisers (support for new
food bank building)
Look for more details about an upcoming garage
sale – a time to “clean out” items you do not want as
well as acquire those “gems” others have donated!
Family Fun Night: PAC is sponsoring a great
evening of fun for families on June 6th from 5:30 to
7:30. Volunteers are needed for various stations
and times. If you are able to help out, please call
the school and leave your name. Tickets are $.50 each or $20.00 for a wristband of endless play (until 7:30 that is!).
As well, volunteers will be needed for the
Intermediate Track and Field Meet at the Apple
Bowl on May 23rd. Please call the school if you are
available to help.
Once again, if you are planning on moving to another
area and your child will not be attending Peter
Greer Elementary, please let Mrs. Campbell know.
This helps us greatly with our staffing process.
We are looking forward to many exciting activities
and events in our last two months of school and we
do hope that you are able to join us for some of
them.
Sincere thanks to you as families who have done so
much for the children in our school.
Have a wonderful month of May!
Yours in Education
Marion Barnes

Our class is also working on recognizing the difference between safe and harmful choices and making positive decisions.

PAC LETTER
Hello PAC’s of School District 23,
It is already the end of April and the Canadian
Student Leadership Conference (CSLC)
planning is well underway. Amazing events and
activities, keynote speakers, breakout sessions,
Ted-X, and more are all being confirmed. These
opportunities will not only benefit the 600+ national
students and the 250+ local registered students
but CSLC will also reach every elementary school.
Groups of CSLC delegates will visit each
elementary school in the end of September where
they aim to ignite a passion for leadership with
SD23 elementary students. Middle and high
school students not attending the conference will
be invited to various CSLC activities and will also
benefit from the presenters that are here for the
conference who have also been scheduled to
present at schools. Leaving a legacy of leadership
within the host community is a goal of all CSLC
conferences and we are determined to do so.
Soon we will be contacting our parent groups to
round up volunteers for the conference as well to
find host families for the 650 visiting Canadian
students. Please visit our website www.cslc2014.ca
if you would like further information on volunteering
or billeting. If you have any questions at all please
do not hesitate to ask as I am happy to help in any
way I can.
