BYOD – Office 2016 install and cloud integration for Mac OSX

Cloud Computing Setup

4 Step Process

• Connect to BYOD network

• Reset your STS network password

• Download and Install Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

• Connect Office to OneDrive

• (Optional) Install OneDrive sync tool

Connect to BYOD network

• Login with your STS network username and password

• Network name is STS-BYOD

• Must be logged into once a month

Open your wireless and select STS-BYOD

A window with the login page should open. If not open your browser and navigate to any page, you should be redirected to this page. Login using your STS username and password

Reset Your Password

• Password resets are not mandatory, however a complex, regularly changed password is the first and most important component of internet safety

• Must be done through webmail

• https://webmail.sts.ab.ca – don’t forget the s on https

Open a browser and visit https://webmail.sts.ab.caSign in with your school username and password

Select your Language and Time zone. (Hint: Alberta is in Mountain Time)

Once signed in click on the settings gearthen select “Options”

Under the Options menu, expand “General” byClicking on the triangle beside it, and select“My account”. Click on “Change your password”on the bottom right of that page

Change your password and remember to click “Save” when completed.

Download and Install Office

• While you are able to use the Online Office apps, the local apps are still more fully featured, and will be available when you are offline for any reason.

In your browser, open Office 365 by browsing to http://login.microsoftonline.com.Sign in using your STS email address.

You’ll be redirected to the STS login page. Fill in your password and click “Sign in”

Click on the “Install Office 2016” button

The Installer will start to download, this may take 15-25 minutes depending on network connection

Once the download completes open the installer from your Downloads

Click “Continue”

Click Continue again

And click “Agree”

Click “Install”

Congratulations, Office is installed. Click “Close” to finish.

Connect Office to OneDrive

• You’ll need to sign in to one of the Office Applications in order to activate your Office 365 License.

• Allows you to save directly from Office to OneDrive

From the Launcher, open up Word

Click “Get started >”

Click Sign In

Sign in using your STS email address

You’ll be taken to the STS login page,Enter your password and click “Sign in”

Carefully pick your Theme, click “Continue”

All done! Click the button to Open Word

Word will prompt for Automatic or Manual Update Checks. It’s best to allow these to happen Automatically. You can now save Directly to OneDrive

Install the OneDrive sync app

• Free App that requires an Apple ID

• Allows you to keep a local copy of the files on your OneDrive

Open up the App Store, and search for OneDrive.

Click “GET” and “INSTALL APP”

From the Launchpad open the OneDrive app to set it up

Enter your STS email Address and click Sign in

Enter your Password and Sign in

Click Choose OneDrive Folder Location

By default, it will add it directly to your profile, you may want to add it to your Documents folder instead. This will make it slightly easier to find later.

Click “Next”

Click Next

Make sure to check to “Open at login” Option.

Open your local synced copy of the OneDrive by using Finder, or by clicking on the OneDrive icon in the top right corner of the screen and selecting “Open OneDrive Folder”
