Specialty Engines in actionModernization without application change
University of Washington (JProcessor)Replacing a hybrid XML processing application with one that runs entirely on its ClearPath system helped the university speed the exchange of student loan information with the Department of Education – and enabled it to do so in a much more secure, reliable, and straightforward manner.
VF Grace (ClearPath ePortal)This company sells to retailers who needed to access the catalogs and prices online. The existing online transactions are exposed as browser interfaces through ePortal and enhanced to incorporate pictures from another source. Support has been moved to iPhone.

Specialty Engines in actionModernization without application change
CEDAE (Companhia Estadual de Águas e Estogos) (ePortal)Worlds largest water authority (9.5M subscribers) -- provides a very modern method of paying a water bill – using an iPhone with a bar code to pay the bill via an ATM.
LabCorp (QProcessor)Using MQ to deliver test results to large clients (like EDI) and other platforms, to dress up reports and add PDF’s for some of the tests. HIPAA audit messages are delivered to an archive system to comply with Federal regulations. Specimens are routed via MQ to different stations in the labs where automated testing is performed on specimens.

Specialty Engine Direction
• Specialty Engine Scalability– Much higher capacity and performance (e.g. new ClearPath
ePortal just introduced)
– Ability to add more Specialty Engines to a ClearPath platform
• Expanded functionality– Wider range of device support (e.g. ePortal support for iPad,
Android and Blackberry)
– New JProcessor and QProcessor software releases/functions
• Enhanced EAE and AB Suite support• Higher availability profile (e.g. QProcessor clustering,
Libra HA model support for ePortal and JProcessor)• Additional Open Source solutions

ClearPath: Functional Partitioning
Why? More performance through parallelism, native x86 execution Expanded ClearPath capabilities using existing code
A fancy term for “split it into pieces”
Future I/O and network processors Language and application processors
Already happening through Specialty Engines JProcessor: Java processor QProcessor: Message Queue processor ePortal: Web browser/Web services front end
Unite 2011 © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved. Page 27
ClearPath: Intra-System Virtualization
A fancy term for “replace Specialty Engines with VMs”
Exploit the huge number of cores available in new x86 systems
Key technology: Unisys s-Par (secure partitioning)
Not a general purpose hypervisor Focuses on secure partitions at the socket/core/IO slot level Provides guaranteed performance, security, and error containment Consolidates multiple separate pieces into one system
Will support both MCP and OS 2200
Unite 2011 © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved. Page 28
ClearPath: Acceleration
#1: emulate faster Code unrolling, on-the-fly optimization, static translation, etc
#2: use native code by decomposition or rewrite I/O and network subsystems Language- and application-specific processors
#3: use native code by binary translation or recompilation Major subsystems User applications
As ClearPath is functionally partitioned, we can speed up different parts with different techniques
