Unit Syllabus: Introduction to materials, Bonding between atoms, Imperfection in solids: vacancies, interstitial and substitutional impurities in solids, dislocations, types and characteristics of dislocations, interfacial defects, stacking faults. Structure Property -Processing-Performance relationship General criteria for selection of materials in process industries, Processing of Metals and Alloys. Objective: To impart knowledge on different properties of material and how industries choose material for application. In addition, students will learn about the processing of different materials to get desired properties.
