DYEING

handmade

handdyed

For this project I constructed a simple

shift dress using 95% organic cotton /

5% spandex. After I constructed the

dress I dyed it with indigo using a shibori

technique. This garment won an award

in the Mississippi State University Cotton

Incorporated Competition under the

College of Dyeing.

For this project I developed a pattern

inspired by the Art Deco architectural

movement of the 1920s. I created the

garment using 100% organic cotton along

with 100% organic cotton thread. I then

hand-dyed the fabric in a natural cochineal

bath. This garment was featured in the

Mississippi State University Gatsby Gala

Ragtime Fashion Show

this workshop we experimented with bundle dyeing,

leaf pounding, and painting using natural dyes.

Fiber reactive dye samples on cotton and rayon.

HARESby CLAIRE

Hares by Claire are sold exclusively at TROVE in Tupelo, Mississippi. I make these

hares using cotton muslin. Their shirts are 95% organic cotton / 5% spandex and

have been hand-dyed using indigo, turmeric, and avocados. After assembly the eyes

and nose are embroidered by hand.
