CHATEAU TOUR DU CAUZESAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU Rouge

Ownership & history:The current château was built in the 19thcentury on the ruins of a mediaeval castle.There was a string of different owners until1986, when the Laporte family bought theentire property. Today, Bruno Laporte is incharge, producing Château du Cauze andChâteau Tour du Cauze, both of which areAOP Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.

Vineyard & location:The property is located on the eastern sideof the Saint-Emilion plateau. The gentle hillsprovide shelter from the north and west, anincline towards the sun, and relativeimmunity to frost. The soil in this part ofSaint-Emilion consists of clay andlimestone.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:The grapes are partly picked by hand, partlyby machine. Vinification is fairly standard,with a three week vatting period, and ageingis carried out in oak. The barrels come froma variety of different cooperages; they areall French medium-toast though and onethird are renewed each year.

Tasting:This wine is ruby in colour with deepergarnet shades developing after a few yearscellaring. There are red fruit aromas(strawberry, redcurrant) with spicy notes.Medium-bodied, supple and well-balancedin the mouth.

Blend:90% Merlot10% Cabernet Franc

Cellaring potential:Up to 15 years
