10 - 10 Rule
No restroom breaks in the first 10 minutes
and the last 10 minutes of class. You must
remain in the classroom so I can
account for everyone.
Procedure to enter Ms. Nguyen’s class:
1. Wear your ID badge around your neck where I can see it.
2. If you are not following dress code, make the necessary correction or come up to the teacher’s desk for a pass to the office.
3. Check out your tablemates (try not to fall in love). Nicely remind them to make corrections to any violations you see.
4. Pull earbuds out. They should not be touching your ears in any way.
5. Keep food and drinks out of sight.6. Keep cell phones out of sight; NOT on the table,
NOT in your hands, and NOT on your lap.7. Immediately go to your assigned seat, sit down,
& do your warm up.
Exiting Procedure (last 5 min. of class)
1. Turn in your work.2. Clean up your table
area& put up supplies.
3. Look around your desk and on the floor for trash to throw away.
4. Gather your belongings.
5. Remain in your seat until the bell rings.
Teacher Lecture Time! (No Tech Gadgets
Allowed)
CONVERSATION: Students need to remain quiet and listening.
HELP: Wait until the teacher finishes talking, then raise your hand if
you a have question. Don’t interrupt the teacher unless you have an absolute emergency.
ACTIVITY: Teacher-led instruction and teacher lectures.
MOVEMENT: Remain in your seat. Restroom breaks are NOT
allowed.
PARTICIPATION: Students sit up straight while the teacher speaks.
All eyes and ears are on the teacher. Students work as directed by the teacher.
Smart Phones & Tablets: Tablets, cell phones, earbuds or any
other type of devices are NOT allowed, unless the teacher says so.
Teacher Presentation Time! (Tablets Allowed)
CONVERSATION: Remain silent in your seat, and pay
attention to the teacher.
HELP: Wait until the teacher finishes talking, then raise your
hand if you have a question. Don’t interrupt the teacher unless you have an absolute emergency.
ACTIVITY: Students sit up straight while the teacher speaks.
All eyes and ears are on the teacher.
MOVEMENT: Remain in your seat. Restroom breaks are NOT
allowed.
PARTICIPATION: Students work as directed by the teacher.
Smart Phones & Tablets: You may use your tablets to take notes or
to follow along with the text/ presentation. NO CELL PHONES/ HEADPHONES ALLOWED. Do not use your tablets for any other reason not relating to the class.
We are doing student presentations...
CONVERSATION: Stay quiet. All eyes and ears are on
the presenter(s).
HELP: Saved the questions for the end of the
presentation.
ACTIVITY: Individual and small group presentations.
MOVEMENT: Remain in your seat. Restroom breaks
are NOT allowed.
PARTICIPATION: While the presenter(s) is/are
speaking, the audience is actively engaged and listening.
Smart Phones & Tablets: No technology allowed.
We are working in groups...
CONVERSATION: Talk loud enough for your teammates to hear
you, but not for other groups to hear.
HELP: If you are confused about something, ask your teammates or
another team before asking the teacher.
ACTIVITY: Individual and small group presentations
MOVEMENT: Remain seated with your group. Restroom breaks
allowed with coupons only. Exchange hall pass for cell phone.
PARTICIPATION: Members in the group will brainstorm, collaborate,
and fully participate. You should stay focused and on task.
Smart Phones & Tablets: Tablets are allowed as long as you use
them for project-related purposes. Cell phones & earbuds are NOT allowed, unless the teacher says so.
We are working independently...
CONVERSATION: You should remain quiet or keep your
voice at a very low level if you need to speak to someone.
HELP: If you are confused about something, ask three
classmates near you before asking the teacher.
ACTIVITY: Independent work (working by yourself).
MOVEMENT: Remain seated with your group. Restroom
breaks allowed with coupons only. Exchange hall pass for cell phone.
PARTICIPATION: Remain in your seat and. You should stay
focused and on task.
Smart Phones & Tablets: Tablets are allowed as long as
you use them for project-related purposes. Cell phones & earbuds are NOT allowed, unless the teacher says so (rare).
Quiz/ Test Time!
CONVERSATION: Remain silent while working.
HELP: Walk up to the teacher’s desk if you have a question.
ACTIVITY: Taking a quiz or test.
MOVEMENT: Remain in your assigned seat. No restroom
breaks allowed. When you are done, hold on to your answer sheet and remain quiet.
PARTICIPATION: Students will work independently to finish
a quiz or test. Keep your desk clear of books, backpacks and cell phones. Cover your answers and do not look at another student’s work.
Smart Phones & Tablets: No technology allowed.
Silent Sustained Reading
CONVERSATION: Remain silent. Don’t disrupt others.
HELP: Walk up to the teacher’s desk if you need to ask a question.
ACTIVITY: Silent sustained reading (reading to yourself silently)
MOVEMENT: Remain in your seat. Restroom breaks allowed with
coupons only. Exchange hall pass for cell phone.
PARTICIPATION: Remain in your seat and read silently. There is
no sleeping or doing homework/ assignments for other classes.
Smart Phones & Tablets: You may read from a traditional book or
an e-book. (You may use your tablet as long as you are reading appropriate contents or what I assign). No cell phones, earbuds, or headphones are ever allowed during SSR.

1. If you need to go somewhere, you will need to show Ms. Nguyen a REBOOT pass.
2. If you need to temporarily leave class (restroom, return a library book, turn something into a teacher, etc.), you must use a RED COUPON.
3. For those of you who will remain in my classroom: you may read silently, do your homework, or anything else educational or school-related.

PlanningIntervention
Enrichment Pie Time is not “free time” or student club time. You can not play games on your tablet, you must NOT have your cell phone out, you may ONLY leave my class if you have a pass issued by another teacher, and anything you do must be related to education/ learning. Keep voices level low and remain in your assigned seats. Don’t ask for special treatment. If I can’t let the entire class do something, don’t ask me for it.

LITERACY - Read a book (or use a coupon to go to the library)
INTERVENTION - STAAR review & remediation, homework, make-up work
CAPSTONE PROJECT - Work on your Capstone Project (look it up if you don’t know)
ENRICHMENT - Your 4th period teacher can teach something fun or test out of content
STRETCH LEARNING - Rigorous & relevant learning, SAT/PSAT prep...
REWARD: I will allow the entire class to listen to music if everyone is passing their classes and all work is caught up.

Editorial Meeting Time!PURPOSE: To brainstorm and suggest ideas for news stories that we can include in the school newspaper or yearbook. Stories should relate to CTHS, is newsworthy, happened recently, and will grab people’s attention.
RULES: 1. Each staff member must present at least one story idea.
2. We will not criticize each other’s ideas.
3. Keep the entire staff informed about what is going on in your career courses. Are there any upcoming events or something interesting going on in your CTE classes?
4. Each staff member will take turns telling the entire class what they will be doing today.
Daily 1:55pm - 2:05pm
News Gathering Time!
1. Students need to stay on task & stay busy.2. If you leave the classroom to take pictures, be
sure to have your ID badge & press badge around your neck, & you’re in dress code.
3. Bring a notepad & something to write on.4. Bring your tablet or camera to take photos.5. As soon as you have gathered your
information & pictures, return to the classroom immediately. Don’t waste time!
6. Everyone must be back no later than 2:25pm. You’ll need enough time to save & upload your photos.
7. Write yours story on MS Word before copying and pasting on ihigh.com/CTHS so that your text can be spell checked.
8. You must post your story no later than two days after it was assigned or occurred.Timeliness is key!

Outside of the Classroom
Whether we are going from one location to another or walking outside during an emergency drill, please follow these rules:
1. Keep cell phones and earbuds out of sight. I will take them up if I see them out.
2. Absolutely no talking and don’t do anything to distract students in the classroom.
3. Stay together and do not stop for a restroom or water break.4. Our class should not block the entire walkway/ hallway. Stay
to the right hand side in case there are other people walking in the opposite direction.
5. During an emergency or drill, stay in alphabetical order to make it more efficient for me to take roll and account for every student on my roster.
Teacher Detention - 15 minutes
1. Sign the detention log sheet.2. Sit up straight and remain
quiet in your assigned seat. Keep your eyes forward.
3. Do what the teacher assigns you to do.
4. Do not talk to anyone else in class.
5. Don’t even think about touching your cell phone.
Failure to follow detention rules will result in referral to the AP’s office.
