Principal’s Message
A huge thank you to everyone who supported Cinema Under the Stars. We were so lucky with the weather, a perfect
evening to enjoy Toy Story 4. I am forever grateful to the amazing fundraising team Annie, Marta, Rachel and Mary
who work so tirelessly and with such enthusiasim. Your energy and can-do attitude is contagious! Thank you to all
those parents who helped out on the night cooking, serving, selling and counting! We were raising money for the
construction of the back park and I am happy to announce we have made well over $20,000. I will confirm the total
once we have confirmed all payments and balanced the books!
Developing our students’ capacity to be engaging writers is a focus of our Strategic Plan as well as our Annual
Implementation Plan. I have included the graphs as an indication as to the
growth being made across the school assessed by the 2019
NAPLAN data results. Our year 3 data shows the greatest
growth in the top 2 bands for the last 5 years with 84%. The
middle 2 bands indicate the students at the national minimum
standard and the bottom 2 bands indicate students working
below the national minimum standard. Our year 3 data
indicates growth from 61% to 84% in the top 2 bands. A decrease in students working at the national minimum
standard, as well as a decrease in students working below. Please note that Kensington Primary year 3 writing data is
well above state, similar and network schools.
Our year 5 data also shows growth, 35% of students in the top 2 bands, also the highest result over the last 5 years.
58% of our students are working at the national minimum standard and
the bottom 2 bands indicate 8% of students working below the national
minimum standard. We are currently examining our teacher
judgement data as well as the on-going formative assessment to
ensure those students who require both extension and support
are continually working at a level, which both challenges,
supports and extends growth. Please note that Kensington
Primary year 5 writing data is well above state, similar and network schools. I have provided some year 3 historial
fiction pieces as examples of student writing and engagement.
Kensington Primary School Newsletter
Lachlan 3 - I was promised a leadership responsibility. A responsibility of revolution
and accomplishment. A life starting a Fleet with Arthur. Since I left the dock I have felt
free. Will I ever make it home? Will my hunger fade?
Orla 3A - I wish my life would be a better and happier life. Instead I have a life of
dread, misery and regret. My name is John Hunter and I’m a medic on the First Fleet.
On my way to a new life, better and happier than my one in England. What will this
strange place be like? When will this long voyage be over? When does my adventure
start?
Dylan 3A - Life is in England is terrible. Hi, I am Rob. I spend day after day, hour after hour getting soot and dust on
my face because I am a Chimney Sweep. I got sent to a terrible journey for stealing milk so I could survive. I got sent
to the First Fleet. When I got on the boat I fell down. Standing on the ship felt very weird. I got thrown in my cell. My
face hit the bar. Someone else got thrown on me. He threw up fifty times. I had to stay up heaps so I didn’t get vomit
on me. The boat was over crowded. I hated the food and I wanted to leave the ship forever and go home to my
Mum. My Dad died. He got hung for stealing money. It was a shame, but I survived the First Fleet. But what would
life in Australia be like?
Visiting the year 5/6 classrooms I was inspired by a descriptive sentence contained in a memoir written by Jonah, “to
get me on that ride would be harder than getting a turtle out of its shell during a thunderstorm.” I would also like
to note the work undertaken by our youngest learners. Sophia in Foundation wrote about her excursion to KCCC,
giving detail to her writing.
Have a wonderful holiday and hopefully enjoy some warmer days – Bridget

Publishing Party
By FD (Jade) and 1C (Rachel)
After planning, drafting, editing, revising and publishing, FD walked excitedly into 1C’s classroom to read their first ever published stories. “At the Park”, “In the Sea” and “In Space” were some of the titles of the stories that were read. And 1C loved the visit and FD’s books!
“My partner was reading his characters, problem and solution.” - Albert 1C
“My partner was using names in the story.” - Tala 1C
“My partner was using expression.” - Lucy 1C
“I felt nervous when I came to read my story, now I feel braver.” - Sienna FD
“My partner helped me read the story.” - Ara FD
“My partner was helping me to read.” - Bonnie and Lenny FD
“My partner was giving me feedback.” -Clementine FD

Fundraising News
We want to shout an enormous, super, mega, whopping ''THANKYOU'' to our generous and supportive friends at Big
Child Care who provided the Toy Story 4 movie and screen for last Saturdays' Cinema Under the Stars. Without their
early support, we could never have planned such a fun event.
Nelson Alexander, Mazda, Vuly trampolines, Metro and Micro Scooters are just a few of the other generous sponsors
who supported getting this event going.
Enormous thanks to all the students, parents (and extended families), staff, former students and local businesses
who donated goods, hampers, time, vouchers, experiences and their enthusiasm in preparations, and on the night.
A full list of our sponsors and supporters is available on Sentral.
The weather was amazing ! We had over 900 movie goers enjoying the food, activities, games, grooming and
auctions before the movie. We did what we do best at KPS, and enjoyed our community and diversity, and worked
as a team.
We don’t have a final fundraising figure yet, but we are expecting to put a nice big red chunk onto our Back Park
Fundraiser Thermometer early in Term 4. Keep an eye out on the thermometer poster near the staffroom.
The lucky KPS Raffle winners were:
First Prize: Vuly Trampoline: Kirsten Scott.
Second Prize: Micro Scooter: Luca Gamble.
Third Prize: Spring Hamper and Bunnings voucher: Freya Dench.
There are still a few Silent Auction items to be collected and paid for, and collection of plasticware from baked
donations.
We have some amazing cooks and bakers in our KPS circle, and the creativity and generosity of class hamper
donations blew us away.
We have a few more Fundraising activities coming up, to make sure we reach our goal of $50,000 to build our new
‘Back Park’.
KPS Cookbook:
Is currently at the printers and will be available for sale in the first few weeks of Term 4.

Sausage Sizzle:
These have been a success over Term 3 for a much needed after school snack for ravenous children.
One final Friday Super Sausage Sizzle in Term 4. Date TBA.
Book Fair:
Book Fair will be held again this November in the Library. This years theme is ‘Dino-Mite: Stomp, Chomp and Read!’
We will confirm exact dates with Scholastic soon. Details in next newsletter.
If you are able to lend a hand in any of the upcoming activities, an hour of your time goes a long way, and is
rewarding.
Please email fundraising.kps@gmail.com
Once again , thank you to all who made ' Cinema Under the Stars' such a success if every way.
Did you miss out on all the fun? You can still make a donation on Qkr!
