Background:•Failed 20 times in 6 states to start a business

•Went to Bleeding Kansas w/ sons

•They killed 5 pro slavery men with swords

• Leads 5 blacks & 13 whites to armory in Harper’s Ferry, VA.

• Wagon full of guns to start a slave revolt

• Takes 9 hostages

• Federal Troops (Robert E. Lee) stormed

Raid on Harper’s Ferry

THE OUTCOME:

• No slaves revolted!

• 9 Died:– 1 frmr slave, His 2

sons, and 9 more!

• Brown tried for TREASON

• Hanged in VA square
