Famous Author

Charles Dickens is probably the most famous author in the English Language.

Why is he so famous

He wrote about the ordinary people and the difficult lives they had.He wrote his stories in exciting chapters so people looked forward to the next chapter.

Birth

Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in February 1812.

Working

As a young boy he had to work in a factory which was cruel, had rats running around the floor, was cold, dark and miserable.

School

He only went to school for a short period as his father was regularly in the Debtors’ Prison.

Journalist

As Charles could read and write he became a journalist for a newspaper. Newspapers were becoming popular at this time.

1836 Marriage

He married Catherine Hogarth in 1836. They were to have 10 children.
