Current London Bridge

London Bridge has 3 arches which makes it an arch bridge. It is built over the River Thames. The current bridge opened on the 17th March 1973 and is made out of concrete.

On the south side of the bridge are Southwark Cathedral and London Bridge Station. On the north side of the bridge is the monument to the Great Fire of London and the Monument Tube Station.

Second London Bridge

The second London Bridge was designed by John Rennie in 1831.

This bridge wasn’t made out of concrete it was made out of granite.

Then later on it was bought by the Americans.

Medieval London Bridge

The Medieval London Bridge had 19 small arches. The narrow arches of the bridge meant the flow of water was made slower which meant the river had more chance of freezing. The Medieval London Bridge was made from wood.

Did You Know

The first London Bridge is thought to be built by the Romans some time in the first century.

Name carved under each arch

My presentation has now come to an end. I hoped you liked it, I did my very best to put it together. I found it really interesting finding out about the bridge’s history and I hope you did too.
