BG Skills

• It took 2.5 years to finalise the sector skills plan

• This included a CITB report of skills for this LEP

• Then the sector skills group was created

• We meet quarterly

Sector Skills Plan - Construction

Outcomes to date

• Construction departments in colleges are working collaboratively• Two supply chain events held engaging the wider industry with the

skills and employment agenda – two way communication at these events

• Collaborative working around pulling together a regional ‘employability passport’

• Skills Deal proposal developed, supported and approved. Currently being delivered by West Suffolk College and partners

• New Higher level apprenticeship for Construction Management • Coordination to ensure maximise impact from opportunities such as

‘open doors’• Pilot activity with a few employers (such as Ridgeons, Persimmon

Homes) on taking on ex-offenders

Outcomes to date

• Breakthrough on the wearing of PPE during training • Boot Camp Pilot for brickwork that resulted in 6 young

people going into employment - WSC• 60 construction employees upskilled through funding

available through the SEETEC• 17 BG Skills employers on Icanbea, 45 construction

companies in total, with only 3 out of 21 other sectors having more companies registered

• Employers donated materials to HMP Norwich which meant they are now able to deliver brickwork

• Further higher level apprenticeship/trainee courses being considered for delivery across Suffolk and Norfolk
