Statement of Interest – Bryan Wolf Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon
As a native Oregonian my family and I have long enjoyed and benefited from all this state has to
offer, including educational and employment opportunities, natural and recreational venues, and
overall quality of life. We also believe it is important to do what we can to preserve and enhance
these assets for our children’s generation and beyond. My wife has leveraged her background and
passion over the past two decades to advance K-12 educational opportunities in the state. I want
to utilize my strategic and governance expertise to help facilitate opportunities in higher
education through the Board of Trustees for my alma mater, the University of Oregon.
While I had the good fortune and opportunity to attend an out-of-state graduate school, the seeds
of that opportunity were planted here in Oregon as a first-generation high school and college
graduate. The quality of education I received at the University of Oregon was a springboard for
my successful graduate studies, as well as my subsequent career with Intel Capital. Without
financial assistance through the University and government, however, attendance at the
University of Oregon would have been unaffordable. This is a perspective that has informed my
life since, and one that drives my interest in working with the Board of Trustees. I want to work
with the Board to ensure access, affordability and academic excellence for future generations of
Duck graduates.
My career in finance and venture investing has provided a strong governance background for a
position on the Board of Trustees, having served as a director or observer on approximately 20
private and public company boards over the past two decades. In addition to my work on audit
and compensation committees, I have developed acumen in providing strategic guidance, helping
companies develop operational rigor, driving ZBB and ROI analyses to prioritize programs and
investments, instituting metrics to measure progress, and most importantly hiring, developing
and supporting leaders to run these organizations. These are all relevant experiences that will
contribute to executing the charter of the Board of Trustees, as well as our fiduciary duties to the
University. I currently serve on a public company board alongside the former President of UNLV
who will reference my contributions in these areas, and how they relate to the Trustee position
under consideration.
The passage of Senate Bill 270 in 2013 was pivotal for the University of Oregon and higher
education in this state. Becoming an independent public body with the ability to retain its own
Board provides the University with a new level of autonomy and capability required to meet the
ever-changing needs of students and the state of Oregon going forward. But it also comes with
greater responsibility, accountability and transparency. I look forward to working with the Board
to help the University deliver on its mission and fulfill commitments to its constituents.
Thank you for your consideration.
