presents 3 tips for preparing to have your parts brush plated.
Learn about brush plating from a company that has been doing
it for decades in the extremely competitive and stringently
controlled aerospace and military markets.
K, so you’re not a brush plating expert. Not many people are!
However, it’s your job to get the most out of your defense,
aerospace, or other highly-specialized components and
hardware. So, if you don’t know at least a littlwsae bit about
how the plating process works, you’re doing yourself a real
disservice.
By following these 3 tips, you and your equipment can reach
their full potential:
NADCAP certified metal platers Only trust to do the work
If you’re going to spend even a fraction of your time dealing with brush plating, then you
have to understand the importance of a NADCAP certification. In fact, in some industries,
you’re required to have NADCAP certified platers do your work!
That’s because a NADCAP certification is so tough to get. The companies that have this
certification have gone through months of audits and reviews. And, as soon as their
certification process is complete, it’s time to schedule the next one! So, if you see a
company that has this distinction, you can rest easy knowing that you’re truly dealing with
the best of the best.
Narrow down your brush plating as much as possible
There’s a reason why this technique is also generally known as “selective plating”. Brush
platers can apply their metal anywhere they need to – and also NOT apply their metal
anywhere they don’t need to. It’s a specialized process that is usually done piece by piece.
That way, your part winds up with the perfect coat of metal on it, exactly where you want
it, and only where you want it.
But you can get platers that narrow down the finished product even more than that!
For example, instead of getting platers that are NADCAP certified in metal plating as a
whole, why not get platers that are certified in your specific metal plating? So, if you need
your hardware plated in gold, look for NADCAP certified gold platers. That way, you can
rest easy knowing that they’ll understand the specific nuances of gold perfectly.
It’s kind of like going to see a specialist when you’re sick. If you need your tonsils taken
out, you go see an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist, rather than just a General Surgeon.
Sure, the General Surgeon has great credentials, but the specialist understands the nuances
of the specific area you need taken care of. Give your equipment the same benefit!
Make sure your hardware does as little traveling as possible
Odds are your parts are relatively fragile. So, the less time your parts spend in transit, the
better.
The best brush plating companies understand this, which is why they’ll have facilities that
can accommodate all of your needs from start to finish, in one single location. That way,
your parts only have to travel to and from you and plater.
As an added benefit, having all of your brush plating work done in one place will speed up
the turnaround time – meaning that it will take less time for you to get your equipment
back and up and running!
