CasingsCasings are foot mounted, single stage, end suctiontype. All pump casings are radially split to permitremoval of the rotating assembly without disturbing thepump casing, suction and discharge piping, driver andcoupling alignment. The vertical centreline dischargemakes the casing self venting. Casings are suppliedwith a tapped drain plug at the lowest point for liquiddrainage. The back cover is held to the casing withstuds to facilitate rapid removal of rotating assembly. The pressure joint is sealed with a fully confinedgasket.
FlangesStandard pump flanges are drilled to AS2129-1978 -Table E with alternate drillings available. Gaugetappings are supplied on both suction and dischargeflanges.
ImpellersShrouded impellers have front and rear seals tominimize leakage and balance axial thrust otherwisecaused by the pump’s generated head. Impellers arefitted with balancing holes that return leakage tosuction and reduce the pressure acting on the stuffingbox to suction pressure. Impellers are dynamicallybalanced. Impellers are keyed to the shaft, and lockedaxially between sleeve and impeller nut. Direction ofrotation is clockwise as viewed from motor end.
Impeller NutImpeller nut tightens on the shaft in the direction ofnormal rotation. Fine pitched metric threads ensurelocking under most service conditions.
ShaftShafts are ground to fit the impeller, sleeve, bearingsand coupling. Large radius stress reducing fillets areprovided at shoulders.
BearingsDouble row rear and single row front deep groove ballbearings are grease lubricated through a grease nipplelocated in each bearing cover. A slinger is mounted onthe shaft to further protect the impeller and bearing.
Packed GlandFitted with removable stuffing box washer, lantern ringand square plaited packing. See page 7 for moreinformation.
Mechanical SealMost types and brands are available. See page 7 formore information.

Mechanical SealsIS range can be fitted with a wide range of propriety mechanical seals to eliminate glandleakage. KSB Ajax Pumps work in close co-operation with all major mechanical sealmanufacturers to ensure our customers obtain the optimal seal solutions for hazardousfluids, abrasive fluids or high temperature and pressure applications. Quench glands andcyclone Separators can be supplied as optional extras if required.
Oil LubricationThe bearing arrangement for the IS pump can easily be supplied with oil lubrication shouldthis be preferred due to the operating conditions.
Wear Rings & Shaft SleeveIn situations where abrasive liquids are being pumped, the close clearances betweenimpeller and casing can become worn resulting in reduced pumping efficiency. The ISrange can be fitted with renewable casing and cover wear rings in a variety of materials sothat the pumps can be refurbished quickly and inexpensively. For larger sizes KSB Ajaxcan also fit impeller wear rings. Shaft sleeves are available in a variety of materialsdepending on operating conditions.
Flange Options
KSB Ajax IS Casings are produced in local foundry so we have the flexibility to modifypattern equipment to produce a variety of flange configurations. Pumps can be suppliedwith Table E, Table F, ASA and ANSI; depending on clients plant standards to matchpreferred pipework codes.
Testing CapabilitiesWith increased emphasis on reliable performance many clients prefer their pumps to besubjected to hydrostatic and hydraulic testing. KSB Ajax Pumps have in-house testingcapabilities and will perform either witnessed or non-witnessed testing depending oncustomer requirements. Testing is performed to AS2417 Grade 2 unless otherwisespecified.
Mechanical Options
Pump Selection
For pump selection the hydraulic performance curvesshould be used. These curves are based on water at15OC and SG equal to 1.0.NPSH values are indicated on the performance curves. At least 0.5m should be added as a safety margin. Toovercome variations between actual and design systemrequirements it is recommended that the driver powerexceeds the absorbed pump shaft power.
Peripheral SpeedAfter determining the pump operating speed andchecking its maximum discharge pressure, the impellermaterial must be checked to ensure that it is suitablewith regards to its peripheral speed.Observing the following limits.

H6C:Dedicated pattern equipment allows us to producecastings in steels where increased shrinkage occursduring casting. Stainless steel is often required for thefood industry or chemical process industry for hygienicand corrosive applications.
H9A:In the transfer of liquids that are used in the chemicalindustry, your IS pump may be required to handleliquids that are highly corrosive and kept at very hightemperatures. H9A will handle for example allconcentrations of H2SO4 at up to 50OC. H9A contains20% chromium and 30% nickel.
NI Resist:Reasonably inexpensive solution to handling seawaterand can also handle similar liquids with mildly corrosiveand erosive properties.
