Wolverines,
We are right back where we started. Last Spring, the sports season had just begun when thenews of the virus started to spread. Our baseball and soccer teams were able to play a fewgames/matches, but that didn't last long. Spring sports were canceled and so was school. Fastforward a year and things are moving in the right direction. Cases are declining (not out of thewoods yet), we have in-person school and student-athletes are competing once again. Fall sportscomplete. Winter sports complete. Spring sports at the plate. Let's finish strong! With two sports seasons behind us and much to celebrate, spring sports athletes have beenanxiously awaiting their turn. Yeah, some play multiple sports, but others that work year-round tofine-tune their craft for the sport they love the most, like junior Nolan Heath, for example, wellhe's ready to get on the diamond. In this March edition, we will continue to celebrate the success ofthe winter sports that recently completed their seasons, and preview those who are beginningtheir seasons this Spring. Baseball, Bass Fishing, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Girls Track and Field,Boys Track and Field, Tennis, and Coed Golf. We will introduce them all to you and give you theirMarch schedule so you can support them. Sunshine, warmer temperatures, spray tans, the smellof cut grass, trees blooming, "PLAY BALL", "GOAAAAAALLLLL", Hole-in-one, Pole Vaulting, what,Pole Vaulting?, Discus, 800 meter runs, Rocket League, forehands, backhands, big-mouth, small-mouth, you ready? Let's GOOOOOOOO Baby!!!!!

We are so proud of the way these Wolverines competed. Only playing two games in December, thingswere looking sketchy to say the least, but the boys hit their stride in January and competed all season long. Buzzer beaters, overtimes, "cardiac kids", they were definitely fun to watch. Personally, I am so glad thisgroup of seniors stuck it out during their career, didn't quit the sport they loved to play, and enjoyed somesuccess their senior year. For the first time since the 2016-2017 season, the Wolverines qualified for the GHSA State Playoffs. Unfortunately, they drew the State Champions in the first round, Pace Academy. If that doesn't happen, I'llbuy you a steak dinner. They finished the regular season 7-5 in Region 7AA play, losing a few heart breakers, but winning several barn-burners as well. Congratulations Coach Mark Whitt, Assistant Coach TammyStevens, and all who participated, junior varsity and varsity. Job well done! Keep working hard. With somuch talent returning, we can't wait to see what the future holds.

Coach Regena Logan and staff fought through the bumps and bruises that come with a long season, plus the mental stress that comes with a pandemic, and competed to the last buzzer. The girls finished12-8 overall and 9-3 in Region 7AA play. Senior Jayda Wood was named Region 7AA Co-Player of theYear along with first teamers Ali Thompson and Stella Henry, while Kami Counts was namedHonorable Mention. The Lady Wolverines qualified for the GHSA State Playoffs for the secondconsecutive year and, for the second consecutive year, they fell short of the Sweet 16 by one bucket. We wish our seniors Jayda Wood and Destiny Noggle well, and hope you'll come back to support thefuture Lady Wolverines. Speaking of the future Lady Wolverines, there is a ton of talent coming back for this team. If theywill continue to work hard in the weight room and on improving their skill, this team will be tough tohandle. Congratulations Coach Regena Logan, Assistant Coaches Stephen Graham, Shelby Ralstonand Lauren Cruz, and all the girls, both junior varsity and varsity, who worked so hard all season. Well Done! Thank you for leaving it all on the floor!
