Pastor Gerhardt JuergenChrist Lutheran Church
But what about you? Jesus asked. Who do you say I am?(Matt 16:15)
Satan asked Eve in the Garden, Did God really say...? Pilateasked Jesus 2000 years ago, What is truth? These two ques-
tions are still being asked today: Is the Bible really GodsWord? Oh, what is truth anyway? Now the world states quitclearly, There is no absolute truth. But, the world is so wrong. There is absolute truth. Truth is Jesus Christ. Today Jesus is
asking each of us the most important question in our lives.Who do YOU say I AM? Your answer is a matter of your eter-
nal life or death.Sadly today, we hear, Jesus was only a good man. Or Just an-other prophet. But Jesus is so much more. The verses followingour text says, From that time on Jesus began to explain to hisdisciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things... and that he must be killed, and on the third day be raised tolife. Jesus was born to be our Savior. Christ went to Jerusalemto suffer, die, and rise from the dead for all your sins. Yes, Jesusis both God and man. True God to offer a perfect sacrifice for all
people, true man to die in our place. Jesus is the Christ, theAnointed one. He is sent from God the Father to be our only
Savior. He is the one who gave up his life to secure our full andfree forgiveness. He is the one who rose victorious from the
grave to secure our freedom from death. He is the one who rulesover all things for our good, now and eternally. May we alwaysconfess that: Jesus, you are the Christ, the Son of the living
God, and MY Savior!

The country looks beautifulfrom the ample amounts of mois-ture supplied by Mother Natureover the last month. It causesmany to think of planting treesaround homes and etc. Site selec-tion and species are important fac-tors that require planning and

Pretty wild weather this week, asnt it? Summer officially ar-ved on Friday and the droughts been broken. Weve got 2.32ches of rain in three downpours
Friday and Saturday, alongth a ton of wind. We didnt havey hail here, but several of ourighbors got hammered by haild estimated 100mph winds.West of Sorum, the wind blewmmy Fabris ultra-light airplanet of his shop and totaled it. Treesew down all over Eric andmanda Schuchards yard and thend almost blew a couple of theirds away! Jonathan and Ericaiechmann were driving intoeir yard northeast of Bison whennd tore the porch right off theiruse and slammed it into the
ckup they were driving, smash-g the windshield and wreckinge pickup. The wind did a lot ofmage to their buildings and cor-ls, but thankfully no one was in-red!The High Plains Western Her-
age board met Tuesday inearfish and Bob Christofferson
as selected as our newest direc-r. The Heritage Center will cele-ate the National Day of themerican Cowboy on July 20thth a Campfire Series show at00 that afternoon. The officialational Day of the Americanowboy is July 27, but the Her-
itage Center is celebrating a weekearly so we dont interfere with an-other celebration at New Under-wood on the 27th. For more infor-mation on that one, contact SlimMcNaught at Slim's CustomLeather, 110 S. Madison Ave, NewUnderwood, SD 57761 (605)754-6103.
Bob Hanson read the story JanSwan Wood had written about ourlocal cowgirl, Jessie Hotchkiss, inthe Tri-State Livestock News andcalled me to see if I would accom-pany him to the Hotchkiss ranchto meet Jessie on Wednesday.Shes interested in the bridle horsetradition of riding and Bob hadtied a fancy knot he wanted to giveJessie. Her parents were as inter-ested as Jessie was to see the dif-
ferent ropes and whips Bobbrought to show her. Besides thefancy knot he made for Jessie, hebrought a horse hair rope, a grassrope, a rawhide lariat, and a beau-tiful leather whip to show us.
Sandy Hotchkiss invited us infor coffee and we dined on freshlybaked peach pie, topped with thicksweet cream while Bob told Dansome of the welding tricks heslearned during his 94 years on thisold earth. Bob is one of my very fa-vorite old cowboys and has led acolorful life. He was raised on aranch near Bison, knew most ofthe old-time cowboys, and is a
wonderful horseman. He was aPOW during WWII, is an out-standing blacksmith and welder, and was a Perkins Co. deputysheriff and EMT for several years. As soon as I got back to the ranch,I called Jan Wood and shes goingto interview Bobby in July for astory in the Tri-State. That shouldbe really interesting!
While Im on the subject of old-time cowboys, Im trying to locaterelatives and acquaintances of theold cowboys who came north withthe cattle herds who still live inthis area. Im gathering informa-tion about Dode Wiley, Jim Brum-ley, Frank Beck, George Shipley,Ed Dippert, SPY Wilson, Fred Jen-newein, Billy Marty, LewisPainter, Russ Wilson, Greenup
Mosely, Billy Clanton, Pecos DickTurbiville, Tennessee Vaughn,Paul and Thornton Ames, andother old cowboys who stayed inthis area after the roundup dayswere over. If any of you have infor-mation to share before the Ameri-can Cowboy celebration at theHeritage Center in July, email meat bets_reva@hotmail.com or callme at 605-855-2824.
Growing up in Bison, I look for-ward to the annual Gala Days cel-ebration and this year was evenmore special. Bison High Schoolheld an all-school reunion Satur-day and we had a wonderful time.
Eight members of my graduatingclass of 16, Alyce LoftsgaardKriege, Rose Sander Hafner, BettyVetter Nelson, Ron Kopren, GregDeibert, Wayne Palmer, TerryHaggart and I gathered in the af-ternoon at Moms Caf to lookthrough the old school annualsand reminisce about the good olddays. Five of our classmates,Linda Jackson, Leon Anderson,Tim Lane, Reed Loughlin, and BobErickson, are no longer with us,but Sandy (Butler) Leonard at-tended grade school with us andshe came to our gathering.
That evening we joined otherBison graduates and former teach-ers for supper and a program atthe school gym. The storm hitwhile we were eating and the
lights went out for a while, but assoon as electricity was restored,we were able to enjoy the enter-tainment and visit with oldfriends. Its amazing how the yearschange people and we had troublerecognizing folks we grew up with. And they had a hard time recog-nizing us!
Terry Haggart from my graduat-ing class sent me this about theperks of reaching 60 or being over70 and heading towards 80!
