R&D&i Centres

The Biomedical Technology Centre is a research and technology centre at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid that gets together, in collaboration with the partner institutions, researchers from very different disciplines of the biomedical technology with the aim of:. Dealing with major scientific challenges posed nowadays in health and biomedicine,

whose success requires an intensive and steady interdisciplinary collaboration.. Facilitating the development of biomedical technology products for their transfer to

industry. . Creating a favourable environment for the training of new researchers and profes-

sionals in the field.

In this centre, the following groups develop their research activity: Bioengineering and Telemedicine (GBT), Advanced Structured Materials and Nanomaterials (GBMB), Biomedical Image Technologies (BIT), Biomedical Informatics (GIB) and Data Mining Engineering (HPDA).

Biomedical Technology cenTre RESEARCH LINES

Design and manufacture of biocompatible and biological media-stable nanostructures for their use as markers/contrasts (MR and MEG) for the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.

Instrumentation for the external guidance of magnetic nanostructures for transporting therapeutic molecules and focusing on target tissues/cells. Hyperthermia oncological treatments or targeted release of drugs.

Development of advanced techniques for functional and quantitative image analysis for the early diagnosis of neuropathologies (PET, MR, MEG) and heart pathologies (US, MR, CT).

Research on microorganization of the cerebral cortex.

Analysis of the brain connectivity by means of high time (MEG/EEG) and spatial (RMI/PET) resolution functional techniques for cognitive neuroscience and early biological markers for Alzheimer disease.

Research on brain communication mechanisms with very low-frequency and strength pulsed magnetic fields. New actuator devices.

Simulation, virtual reality and image guidance technologies for training and planning in minimally invasive surgery.
