HEROES

The hero and the saint are “ideal types”

• Both are important and neither should be dismissed in relation to the other.

Heroes

• Heroes are persons of great courage who perform extraordinary and praiseworthy

deeds.

– historical, mythical, spiritual, etc.

• before becoming a hero – they are unknown, ordinary – conflict draws out the

courage of the hero.

• heroes push through the fear; courage isn’t absence of fear, but rather facing it;

they acknowledge their feelings but rise above them.

• heroes fight for others.

« …IT WAS A HOBBIT-HOLE, AND THAT MEANS COMFORT. »
