Learning Experiences

Learning mathematics is beyond just route

learning concepts and skills.

Equally important are the Process Skills.

These processes are learned through

carefully constructed Learning Experiences.

Learning Experiences

To encourage students to be inquisitive, the learning

experiences must include opportunities where students

discover Mathematical results on their own.

Holistic Assessment Modes

Learning Experience Tasks

• Opportunities where students discover mathematical results on their own.

• Hands-on activities in class that help to deepen students learning of Mathematical concepts.

• Helps to provide feedback on child’s process of learning

Topical Review Tests

• Topic-based short tests

• Tested at the end of learning of topics

• Test students ability to recall and apply specific mathematical facts, concepts, rules and formulae.

Learning mathematics is more than just learning

concepts and skills.

Equally important are the process skills (logical

thinking and communication skills).

How can I help my child?

How can I help my child ?

Mathematics can be applied in day-to-day living.

Encourage your child to think mathematically in

everyday life by talking and role-modelling about the

ways mathematics can be used at home, at a

supermarket or at the playground.

Shopping is Fun!

• Comparison by price/

mass/cheaper/expensive (Financial

literacy)

• Counting of money (Addition/subtraction)

• Finding the cost of 2 times(Multiplication)

• Plan a menu within a budget (E.g making

a sandwich)

• Sensing of length/ mass/ volume

Cooking: Recipes

Art and craft

• What picture did you make?

• How many different shapes did you use?

• Can you name them?

• Tell me more about the shapes you had used.

• Does the size and orientation change the shape?

Newspaper articles & Brochures

Automaticity (Mental Calculation)

• Child should be able to mentally count and avoid using fingers.

• Emphasise on counting, number sense, reading numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication of numbers.• Number sense- Getting them to guess how many

sweets are there in one handful• Counting- You have 5 sweets and I am going to give you

4 more, how many do you have now? (Encourage counting on from 5 rather than start from 1)
