The Gregory Inn
(information taken from an article by Sylvia Wilson, Troy Gazette-Register 2-1-1996) and BCHA records.
According to deed book records secured in the Prothonotary’s office of the Bradford County
Courthouse, the original Alparon Park property of 68 acres was deeded to Daniel and Jehial Gregory from
the Drinker Tracts in 1821.
Legend that the Mitchell house on the property was built for a Tavern or Inn is substantiated by the
existence of a ballroom on the 2nd floor, customarily found in buildings providing lodging during that era.
About the year 1826, Dr Alfred Parsons, MD, on a visit to Eli Parsons, a paternal uncle and one of Bradford County’s pioneer residents, persuaded the doctor to
locate in the immediate area and practice his profession. Dr. Parsons continued to conduct his
medical practice until the 1850’s when the railroad, build so near the house made the site undesirable as a residence at which time he moved and the home was
used as a tenant house.
In 1893 the Parsons family sold the house to Henry Gernert and a succession of owners followed: W.S.
Nearing, Louis nearing, George Case, Harry Mitchell Sr. and family, in 1936, his son Harry ‘Budd’ Mitchell and
wife Florence moved into the house.
The house’s, architecture is Greek Revival. Each window contains 24 panes, many containing interesting distortions in the glass. Both the main doorway on the
first floor and the balcony doorway are ornately fluted. The basic structure of the house consists of 3 inch pine
planks, mortised top and bottom, into the beams and held with wooden pegs.
The center hall contains the original circular stairway, and the many of the rooms remain largely unchanged.

The United Way Day of Caring has become an important part of communities across America ... this
includes events right here in Bradford County. The United Way of Bradford County began implementing
Day of Caring back in 2011, with 12 projects completed to date. The purpose of Day of Caring is
to link local companies with United Way funded agencies to help them complete a much needed
project. Volunteers not only feel good about what is accomplished that day but they also learn more
about a valuable resource that exists in their community ... AND recognize the importance of
giving back to their community through United Way of Bradford County.
