OUR HISTORY

Balin was created by two local surfers Ian Brett and Jon Wilson back in 1974 when they met on the beaches of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia, and started a business producing leg-ropes and surfboards to support their lifestyle. The

business grew quickly to a full time operation with over 30 staff, sales agents, distributors and customers all over the world making Balin a globally recognised brand.

In the 1970s urethane leg ropes, or Leashes as we call them today, were a completely new advancement to surfing. Through constant experimenting and testing the two partners designed and patented a new molded end piece that was later to become the standard for nearly all leg ropes produced globally today. With an innovation that was far more advanced than anything

on the market, they went to America to sell their revolutionary leg ropes to the world. Today Balin produces their strongest leashes ever, along with a host of surf related products including hardware and apparel, still focused on the core surfer of

today.

Today the business is still privately owned by Jon Wilson. With a saltwater heritage ingrained in its very DNA, Balin has stood the test of time, providing innovative surf related apparel and hardware to the world of surfing for 42 Years… The brand has

undergone a complete redevelopment for SS17 Launch back into the UK, but always a nostalgic nod to our grass route past.
