Alma balances rough days and some fun

Most of her days this month Alma was busy, playing with cars and

keeping up with the correspondence – she even

managed to fit some sleep in!

But she also spent nearly every weekend sick with fevers and other

yucky things, which was seriously not fun (and meant zero sleep for me)

One of those colds turned into a very painful bacterial eye infection. Of course it had to get worse on a

Sunday, when everything is closed, so we travelled especially to a clinic in South Penrith, where the doctor

got a bit worried and sent us to Emergency at the Nepean hospital, just in case, after prescribing

antibiotics and an eye cream. The Emergency was horrible (as these places usually are) so we decided to head home and wait and see if the medicine helps. After two doses of antibiotics the

red puffy eye stopped deteriorating and the pain ceased, so we waited till Monday for a follow up at her

regular doctor around the corner.

Every weekend illness usually means that the week following is most likely a write-off and my sleep time is

constantly reducing to nil...

But in saying this, Alma is an excellent patient, in a constant good mood, sensible with medication and good

at communicating how she feels, which is a big help.

Here is Hahgoot walking with Alma to day care, before heading to the train to Blaxland, for her fortnightly OT

visit.

We had a special guest: Joey the jumping bunny came to visit from day

care and spent a weekend with us.

Alma’s day care teacher Lorraine gave us a special treat: Maltese salty biscuits, made by her mum.

The girls enjoyed the treat with a piece of cheese.

Sadly Lorraine had a funeral to attend one day so I had to find an emergency child care alternative as I had to go to

work. Cheryl was very kind to volunteer her mother for the day so Alma had a fun play

date with Jasper.

Alma bounced back from all the illnesses well and was happy to

dance again (left), eat well (middle, enjoying a rare semolina porridge for breakfast) and go shopping in

no time at all. I was the one exhausted...
