What’s the ‘Scope?
• ANSWER NOW: Sketch a telescope.
• SECOND GOAL: understand why we need telescopes, how a telescope works, and that you need different scopes for different reasons/types of light.
Here are 3 Telescopes
• Split into 3 groups. One person record. One person report back. Everyone contribute.
• Identify the different parts of your telescope. You don’t need to use the right words, but pick out and give a name to each of the parts you think is important.
• Good Example: the tube – very important.• Bad Example: the screws holding something
together. Do I care? No.
• Do the different telescopes have all the same parts, or are there differences?

What does a telescope DO?
• Main lens/mirros– Collect LOTS of light, focus it down.– NOT MAGNIFYING
• Eyepiece– MAGNIFIES– Bigger number, bigger eyepiece, less
magnification
