Action Plan for Development of the Market in Thailand

Renewable Energy Industry ClubThe Federation of Thai Industries

The Renewable Energy Industry Club consists of 7 business types related to the renewable energy

for commercial purposes.

There are more than 50 members and 20 advisors from both Thai and international universities

and other organizations which are responsible for renewable energy.

The 7 types of renewable energy for commercial purposes

Solar Cell Wind BioMass

BiodieselEthanolBioGas Waste to Energy

Solar Cell EnergySolar Cell Energy The manufacturers in Thailand have invested in the solar cell productions more than 6 billion baht

which propose to produce both Solar Module

Fabrication and Solar Cell Manufacture.

However, the market of the solar cell is foreign market due to the lack of government policy

support for local market.

Wind Turbine Energy Commercial low-speed wind

turbines (2.5-3.0 m./sec.) of 100-

5,000 watt capacity have been

produced in Thailand. Its capacity

will be developed to 50,000 watt

soon.

For the high capacity wind turbine such as the

project of Ministry of Energy, which has been

installed in the southern, is imported from other

country. This business still has few investors.

Bio Mass EnergyThere are a lot of biomass plants

established and can produce

electricity by cogeneration system

which is more popularly used in

Thailand than other technologies.

Interesting technology for biomass such as “pyrolysis

gasification” is now at the stage of research and

development in Thailand.

MSW: Waste to EnergyMunicipal Solid Waste

There are 14-15 million tons per

annum of MSW which are

interested by investors and

technology providers. However,

most of those technologies

have not efficiently solved Thai

MSW problem.

Thailand is expecting the investors who can

provide effective waste management solutions

appropriate to Thai situations.

Waste Plastic to Oil Solution

Bio-Gas There are more than 10 entrepreneurs who can design and fabricate biogas plants and more than 500 factories (small, medium and large) operate biogas plants throughout Thailand.

Most of the biogas plants can run successfully by using waste from tapioca starch process, pig farm and food factory.

In addition, the biogas business suits for BOT (Built Operation Transfer) investment because it is low investment and return in a short period.

Thailand Ethanol Production Potential

49 Plants have been registered to the Ministry of Industries.

Total rated capacity of 12.5 M-liters per day. Around 50% automotive Benzene fuel replacement. At present, only 11 plants are in operation. Total

production capacity is 1.58 M-liters per day. However, actual consumption is at 0.8 M-liters per day

Over supply of 0.6-0.8 M-liters per day.

Bio-dieselIn May 2008, the industrial bio-diesel production is about 1.26 M-liters/day for B2 and B5 blend accordingly. At community level, bio-diesel productions are mostly produced from used cooking oil. Such bio-diesel are being used only in the community.

To solve the problem of bio-diesel production in long term, there should be promotion on the plantation of non-edible) crop as raw material to produce bio-diesel in non-existing agricultural area.
