AssessingIndividualProgramLearningOutcomes(CoreCompetencies)Wecontinuetoanalyzethedatapresentedbystudentsviathee-Portfolio(MARA289).Thegoalofthee-Portfolioistoprovideprogram-basedassessmenttoensurethateachstudentdemonstratesmasteryofallprogramlearningoutcomes(corecompetencies)forthedegreebeforegraduation.Itisaclassinwhichfacultysupervise(evaluateandassist)butdonotteach.Studentspresentessayswithsupportingevidencetoshowthattheyunderstandandcanmeetthecompetencies.Theyalsoshowtheirabilitytosynthesizeandtheknowledgethey’vegainedaswellasthemselves.Thefacultyfeelthatourmodelofcheckinghowmanyrevisionsareneededforeachstatementofcompetencyservesuswell,andwewillcontinuetousethismethodtoassessstudentachievementofcorecompetencies.Ourgoalistoachieveanaverageof2orfewerrevisionsforeachStatementofCompetency(theessayinwhichtheydemonstrateachievementofaspecificPLOguidedbyrubrics).RequiredCoursesandPLOsTheStatementsofCoreCompetencysupportedbyevidencefromrequiredMARAcoursesareshowninTable1.

TheMARA289ePortfoliohandbookandcompetencystatementrubricsprovideguidancetostudentstoenablethemtosuccessfullycompletethiscourse.Wecontinuetoanalyzethestudents’masteryofeachMARAcorecompetencythroughthiscourse.SeeAppendixAfortheMARACoreCompetency/AssignmentAchievementReportingFormforthefall2017course.Theprogram-basedassessmentmeasuresstudentmasteryofallprogramlearningoutcomes(corecompetencies)beforegraduation.Thiscourseisofferedforcreditornocredit.Thefacultymembersupervisesstudents,evaluatestheirwork,providesfeedback,andevaluatesthefinalproduct,thee-Portfolio.Studentsinterpreteachcompetencyandprovideevidencesupportingtheirmasteryofeach.Examplesofstudente-PortfoliosarepostedontheMARAProgramPerformancepageunderthecategoryofProgramBasedAssessment.InstructionstoviewthestatementsandlinkstothestudentworksamplescanbefoundontheintroductorypageofeachePortfolio.Seeonerecentexample.
Theultimategoalforstudentsinterpretingeachcorecompetencyandprovidingsupportingevidenceisanaverageoflessthan2submissions(whichmeansanaverageoflessthan1revisioneach).Table4providesasummaryofthenumberoftimesonaveragestudentssubmittedeachCoreCompetencystatement.

CompetencyADiscussionThenumberofsubmissionsforProgramLearningOutcomeA—Articulatetheethics,values,andfoundationalprinciplesofarchivesandrecordsmanagementprofessionalsandappreciatetheimportantrolerecordkeepersplayinsocialmemoryandorganizationalaccountability—continuestofluctuate.Thenumberofsubmissionswasmorethan2.0inbothspring2014andspring2016.Action,Implementation,andResultsDuringthesummerof2016,instructionsintheMARA289rubricwererevisedtobetterexplaindesiredoutcomesforCompetencyStatementA.Results:TheaveragenumberoftimesCompetencyStatementAwassubmittedinthefallof2016was1.89,thelowestsincespring2015(whenstudentswereallowed1‘free’reviewbeforethecountbegan)andbelowthe2.0goalforallcompetencystatements.Theaveragenumberofsubmissionsinspring2017was1.85.Unfortunatelytheaveragescoreforfall2017roseto2.67.Thisresultmaybeattributedtothefactanotherinstructorsupervisedthecourseforthefirsttimeinfall2017,themixofstudentsenrolledwasdifferentthanpreviously,orboth.ThetwocorecompetenciesthatweresubmittedmorethantwicewereCompetencyA(whichhadbeenafocusofourattentionin2016).Therefore,CompetencyA,includingallassignmentsfromcoursessupportingthecompetency,willbereviewedinfall2018.
SOI MARA Program Assessment Report Page 6 CompetencyGDiscussionCompetencyGfollowsasimilarpatterntoCompetencyA—Knowthelegalrequirementsandethicalprinciplesinvolvedinrecordsmanagementandtheroletherecordkeeperplaysininstitutionalcomplianceandriskmanagement—averagingmorethan2.0inspring2016andFall2017.Atthetimethegoalofanaverageoffewerthantwosubmissionswasset,itwasdecidedthatcoursesthatcontainstudentlearningoutcomesandsupportingassignmentsforthosecompetenciessubmittedmorethantwotimesonaveragewillbeanalyzedtodetermine1)howthestudentperformedonthoseassignmentsand2)ifthestudentlearningoutcomesandsupportingassignmentsareappropriate.
ActionandImplementationNoactionwastakenonCompGafterspring2106,inordertoseeifthishigherratewasananomaly.However,basedontheincreasedrateagainthisfall.Therefore,CompetencyG,includingallassignmentsfromcoursessupportingthecompetency,willbereviewedinfall2018.
Spring2017DataCollection
Inthespringof2017,therewere8studentsenrolledinthecourse(all8finishedsuccessfully).ThebreakdownofeachcompetencyandthenumberoftimesubmittedareshowninTable5.UsingCompAasanexample,wecanseethatcompAwassubmittedonce(norevisions)buttwostudents;twice(onerevision)but5students,andthreetimes(tworevisions)byonestudent.Theaverage#oftimessubmittedwas1.875.However,the#ofrevisionsisanaverageof.75.

Discussion
Threeone-creditMARAcourseshavebeenintroduced—oneeachinsummer2017,fall2017,andspring2018.WewillcontinuetomonitortheevidenceusedforthecorecompetenciesattheendoftheterminwhichMARA289isofferedtounderstandifandhowthoseone-creditcoursesproduceassignmentsstudentscanusetodemonstratetheirmasteryoftheassociatedCoreCompetencies.
