1. Visually develop a Russian folk tale

2. Explore main themes of Slavic folklore, character archetypes, imagery and symbolism. Look at dominating art movements in Russian fantasy illustration; and aesthetics in attempt to create more culturally aware, aesthetically pleasing art. Write a kickass dissertation.

• Slavic imagery gives these stories authenticity

• This is important to ground the work

• Illustration is a HUGE area

• Traditions in illustration differ from country to country

• Believable setting is important to provide a solid foundation for characters, props, vehicles, creatures etc.

• All elements must be aesthetically connected

• To understand this idea of “place” we must understand the underlying cultural differences in artistic tradition.

CONCLUSION

• Investigate further into different modern styles of pre production art (comic book, design drawing etc.)

• Research art history of different countries (e.g. Russian Constructivism)• Submit project proposal• Polish up my skills – tutorials, Gnomon DVDs, ImagineFX etc.• Try to arrange an interview with a real concept artist• Pick a story to adapt• Pick a setting to adapt it to• Start on production
