Weekend Worship Options
Although the church building is closed for gatherings until further notice, staff and volunteers have been busy creating different ways to continue ministry. Each weekend the worship service is available for you to engage with in your home via the church web page and the church app. In addition to the worship service, videos and handouts are available for all ages from early childhood through adults. (The high school and young adults are meeting via Instagram Live). As we continue in this different time of ministry, groups may also begin using other meeting resources such as Zoom, Facebook Live, or Google Hangouts, please watch for updates for ways to stay connected. Finally, be sure to check out Pastor Tim’s new Podcast, T2G, for five minutes of encouragement each day.
DISCIPLE DIGEST Highline Christian Church, 14859 1st Avenue South, Burien
One Body Many Parts In 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 the apostle Paul teaches on the church as one body with it’s many members. Today, possibly more than any time in the history of the United States, the number of the many different members of the church is evident. This is such a good time to be reminded, as many have already stated, the church is not a building we go to, nor is it the 70 minute gathering on Sunday; rather it is the children of God, living for God, in the Kingdom of God in this world.
It has been so encouraging to hear so many stories already of people reaching out and checking in on others to see if they need help with anything in this time of being locked in and staying close to home. It has also been encouraging to have so many people reach out to the church offering their services to people who need help because they cannot leave their home. You, the church, are rising up and being the hands and feet of Jesus. Some of my favorite stories so far include: people going on shopping runs; doing yard work for neighbors; shooting videos to share with others; sharing cleaning supplies; and yes, even sharing toilet paper with those in need of a square or two.

Dwell - Audio Bible Reimagined
The Dwell Audio Bible App Team is seeking to do their part during this time of social distancing and self quarantining and have offered a free two month subscription to their full listening service. The Dwell App is a free app found on your device's App store. Following the two free months, your account will revert to the free version unless you decide to extend and pay for the subscription. I am aware you can listen to scripture in a number a different ways, however, the Dwell App has become my favorite way to listen to the Word of God. I encourage you to check out the App and take some time to listen and dwell in the Word, I believe you will find it to be a rich experience.
Find your link to your free Dwell subscription on the HCC App or Facebook page.

One Body Many Parts (continued)….As this pandemic continues, the number of needs is going to continue to increase and the need for the church to continue to rise up to be the church will be more needed than ever. In the days to come, what Paul said about the body is going to be necessary for all to get involved. The body is not made up of one part, but many. Verse 17-20 “If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.” Though a great need right now might be for people to make runs to the grocery store, this will not always be the case and we will need others who have other abilities to step in and do their part. If you haven’t already done so, you might begin asking God what role He has for you in this time; be open and be creative. The Spirit is always at work and He is always inviting you to join Him in His reconciling work in this world.
Speaking on this passage, Henri Nouwen states “Not everyone can be everything. Often we expect one member of the body to fulfill a task that belongs to others. But the hand cannot be asked to see nor the eye to hear.” As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic the body has been separated and dispersed back to our neighborhoods. Another result of the pandemic is the rise of the individual members of the body to be the church and to learn to have community in new and ever growing ways. May we continue to learn, grow, reach out, and live into the part of the body God shaped us for from before time began.
Blessings on you as you seek to do your part at social distancing while at the same time seeking new ways to draw close and reach out to those in need of community in this isolating time.

Family Worship Service
Unless we are unable to gather, weekend services on July 11 & 12 will be family worship services. We are inviting families into the worship center to worship God together as family units. The worship service will include the typical aspects of worship, but will be presented in ways to include the spectrum of young to old. Further details to come. The Next Gen team is looking forward to worshipping together with our faith community.

As one who has received this scholarship in the past and is graduating this year, I would like to thank the church body for their support in furthering my Christian formation and equipping me for ministry. Thank you.

Don’t Be A Spreader! Sharing is good, right? We teach children to share their toys (much too soon in my opinion, but that’s another article to write). The time has come that we need to consider NOT sharing — especially with older people like grandparents. How can you and your family demonstrate love to grandparents and the elderly during this time without a face-to-face visit? Please consider the following as you think about loving well.
1. Remember that just because you are feeling healthy does not mean you are not carrying a virus that could be deadly to someone else.
2. Remember that your children can also be symptom-free carriers of the virus.
3. Consider phone calls or video calls to stay connected with grandparents. Be creative on video calls. What can you do (play a game?) over video that would encourage and give life to both parties?
4. Send cards or pictures through the good ol’ fashioned postal service.
5. Adopt a skilled nursing facility. Send cards and/or pictures to an activity director at a skilled nursing facility to be distributed to residents —all who are not permitted to have visitors. Also, the staff can use encouragement as they are working so hard. Cards and pictures can be sent to our very own Shawna Dazey and/or Amy Heider who work as the Active Living Program Director in Renton and Activities Director in Seattle respectively.
