Secretary / The Rio de Janeiro City Hall Prefecture

History• The Mental Health Community Center Program, located

in a suburb of Rio, was conceived as a project and initially presented in June, 30th, 1992 at old The Pedro II Psychiatric Center Second Congress, to be implemented in empty spaces we had back then due to institutions’ assistance reforms, changing from hospitalization to a more globalized profile of dealing with mental illness.

• It is located in a 10.000 m2 of The Odillon Galloti’s Hospital Unit, reformed through a series of community gatherings.

Goals

• To help deconstruct mental illness’ myths in a

broad community.• To favor social control in

the mental health field • To value psychiatric

public service with an anti-asylum profile

• To help built a network of projects against social

exclusion
