Writing CareerAnna Dewdney began her career illustrating several chapter books in children’s literature. Her first self-illustrated book was Llama Llama Red Pajama, (2005), who’s main character was a baby llama. A majority of the text in her work is written in verse and utilizes rhyming. Due to Dewdney’s reading advocacy work, many of her books are used to promote literacy and reading.

Writing Career• Dewdney also visited

Dollywood and got to see her first two books, Llama Llama Red Pajama, and Llama Llama Mad at Mama, made into a musical.

• There are eight different languages that Dewdney’s books have been translated to.

• Including: Chinese, Hebrew, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Polish, Spanish, and Russian.

Dewdney is actively involved in many environmental awareness and conservation efforts.

Pangolin Facts• Pangolins eat mostly ants and

grubs.• Pangolins have fuzzy, scruffy

tummies, a bit like dogs.• Pangolins have a very strong

sense of smell.• Pangolins protect themselves by

rolling tight into a ball so they are completely covered with their scales. 

• Pangolins are the only known mammal to possess scales. 

• It is said that this armor of scales can deflect a bullet from a .303 rifle fired from 100 meters!

• Pangolins have no teeth!  • Pangolins have one baby at a

time.  Baby pangolins ride on mommy pangolins’ tails!

• Pangolins have incredibly long tongues (up to 16 inches!) that are attached to their pelvises!

• Pangolins usually walk on their hind legs.

• Some pangolins can live in trees. Pangolins can sometimes spray like a skunk.

• Pangolins are NOT anteaters, but have their own genus, Philodota. The family is Manidae.
