UNIT 3 NOTES:Heart

Dissections

(1) The Basics• Septum:

Piece of meat separating the right and left side.

• Atria = Chambers on the top

• Ventricles = Chambers near the bottom

(2) The Right Side--CARRIES DEOXYGENATED BLOOD--

• Superior / Inferior Vena Cava:Empties into the right atrium.

• Tricuspid Valve:The valve between the right atrium + ventricle.

• Pulmonary Semilunar Valve:The valve between the right ventricle + pulmonary artery.

• Pulmonary Artery:Exits the right ventricle.

(3) The Left Side--CARRIES OXYGENATED BLOOD--

• Pulmonary Veins:Empties into the left atrium.

• Bicuspid/Mitral Valve:The valve between the left atrium + ventricle.

• Aortic Semilunar Valve:The valve between the left ventricle + artery.

• Aorta:Exits the left ventricle.
