§ Anand is an industrial base for Chemical, Engineering and Food &
Agriculture products
§ With a turnover of INR 4,305 Crore (USD 1,050 million) and milk
collection of 6.5 million kg/day (2006-07), Anand Milk-producers
Union Limited (AMUL) is the largest dairy cooperative in India
§ Industrial developments could be attributed to the presence of a
significant numbers of Chemical and Engineering units in the district,
which include Cambay Chemicals Ltd., Beepee Coating Ltd.,
Elecon Engineering Company Ltd., Hindustan Packaging
Company Ltd., National Dairy Development Board, Mother Dairy
Food Processing Ltd.
§ Over 950 units of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are present
in the district

Agriculture§ Major crops produced in the district are banana, papaya, potato, mango, gooseberry, onion and
cabbage
§ In 2006-07, Anand district had the third highest production of banana in the state amounting to
5,26,185 MT, followed by potato with a production of 1,88,940 MT
§ A significant amount of cereals, pulses and cotton production is witnessed in Anand

Industry and Investment Trends
§ According to Industrial Entrepreneurial
Memoranda (IEM) filed from 1988 to 2007, Anand
has shown a phenomenal growth in the
engineering sector
§ Plastic industries emerged as a thriving area for
the investments and an increase of over 100 %
in investments was observed during 1998-07
§ Some of the main constituents of engineering
sector, such as metallurgical industries, electrical
equipments, misc. machinery & engineering and
autoparts have also been growing at a steady
pace

§ A total of 10 MoUs were signed during Vibrant Gujarat
Global Investors Summits (VGGIS) 2003, 2005 and 2007,
in several sectors such as, ports, power, agro & food
processing, tourism, chemicals & petrochemicals and auto &
engineering
§ 8 MoUs worth INR 2,057 Crore (USD 501.7 million) were
signed during VGGIS 2007 in sectors, such as, chemicals &
petrochemicals, agro & food processing, power, tourism, port
and engineering & auto creating over 18,105 job
opportunities
§ Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL),
has signed an MoU in Vibrant Gujarat 2007, for a 360 MW
power plant based on gas.

§ Anand is emerging as a hub for Auto & Engineering, Chemical, Plastic Industries and Food & Agro industries
§ Recent surge in the growth of plastic industries in the district has added more jobs and increased opportunities for the masses
§ Proximity with other major industrial hubs of the state, such asAhmedabad, Vadodara and Vapi has made the district a thriving region for investments
§ There is an availability of a large pool of skilled and qualified manpower due to the presence of educational and research institutes
§ Small scale industry sectors such as textiles, electronics, ceramics and food products, are the supporting pillars of the economy providing direct & indirect employment to over 5,900 people in the district
§ The emergence of Khambhat port, with a cargo handling capacity and ship building yards would be considered as a major driver of the economy

§ There are four pipeline sections in the district of which the Anand-Rajkot section is the longest segment
with 53.32 km
§ The existing gas grid in the district is 151.68 km long and the proposed length of the gas grid is 66.709 km.

Proposed Infrastructure Projects
Port:
§ A port based project is proposed near Khambhat, which includes Ship
building yards, envisaging the cargo handling capacity of 7 MMTPA
Rail:
§ With an estimated cost of INR 15 Crore (USD 3.65 million), a rail
project, linking Khambhat port with Anand to Ahmedabad has been
initiated.
Water:
§ For the improvement of water supply and sewerage system in the
district, Urban Development has commissioned a project along with
Urban Housing Department.

Tourism§ Spread across an area of over 1000 sq. mt., the Flo-Art gallery
present in the district includes cottage industry handmade crafts and a
variety of household accessories.
§ The advanced pasteurisation process of milk and the production of
processed foods can be seen in the Amul Dairy Cooperative
Museum in Anand
§ The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Veer Vithalbhai Patel Memorial
is present in Karamsad. This includes a library and is surrounded with
beautiful gardens for creating a perfect ambience
§ 60 km from Anand, the region of Khambhat is world famous for its
textile products such as silk and chintz
§ Established in the 11th Century, the famous Jain temple, Stambhan
