Creating Success Criteria

What criteria could I use to measure how successful a pupil has been in achieving a Learning Outcome?

SUCCESS CRITERIA

statements of standards from which success in an activity can be measured.

Success Criteria are summary statements which illustrate exactly what it is that pupils must know/be able to do to achieve Learning Outcome.

Learning Outcome + Possible Success Criteria

SCIENCESLO – Pupils will understand what melting

is.

Possible Success Criteria:Pupils can describe melting, making the

following points:• Melting involves solids turning into

liquids.• The particles in the solid move further

apart.• Heat is required for melting to happen.• Different solids melt at different

temperatures.

Learning Outcome + Possible Success Criteria

PELO - Pupils will be able to swim front

crawl with an efficient leg kick

Possible Success Criteria• Legs will be straight and toes pointed• Legs will reach a depth of

approximately 18 inches and will only create a bubble at the surface.

• Legs will pass close together.• Body position will be flat and will not

rotate.

Task 3

Choosing one of your own Learning Outcomes and using your definition of Success Criteria, write down the possible Success Criteria you could use to measure pupil success.
