Let’s Arise and Turn Back towards God!
Recently, we’ve been reading the book of Ho-
sea during our Morning Devotion. Looking at
the content of the book alone, one may feel
that it is filled with negativity but in fact, God is
giving everyone an opportunity to turn back.
God sounds His call and invites us to arise and
return to Him because He is in the midst of exe-
cuting salvation. Especially in chapter six, God
calls people to turn back; When people rebel and depart from God, they
become more and more unfamiliar with Him. On a different note, when
one turns back, he should strive to know God, only then will this
“return” be rooted in a strong foundation and be powerful.
God reigns and He is in charge of everything. He is in charge of our past,
present and future. When one comes to a state of hopelessness, feeling
anxious because of all that is happening - GST, economic slowdown,
unjust things are all around us. When one feels beaten up, that is the
time to turn back – stop being stubborn, stop looking for ways apart
from God, do not judge and criticise, and stop complaining about the
problem, do not rely on social or political relations for all these do not
lead us to turn back towards God. In order to depart from curses, the
only way out is through God.
Brothers and sister, arise and turn back towards God. Get to know Him
once again through the wisdom of His word, and re-locate the covenant
that He has made with us. When we walk once again in this covenant,
He shall make us His holy people
because He has never wanted to
leave us because it is His nature
to keep covenants and to show
mercy. When we turn back to-
wards God, blessings shall arrive
one after another. He is like the
dawn of hope - gentle and beautiful - He promised that all those who
know and follow Him shall have the morning light in their lives.
God is constantly asking His people to turn back, to come out from the
confines of their problems. Everyone should not mind their own busi-
ness but should ponder upon God’s will for their country and community
because turning back is the only way out. It is the same for leaders, el-
ders, people of authority and fathers – the time to turn back is here.
Intercessors should adjust their vision, look at the changes around them
from God’s point of view, never give up, never be negative; Don’t look at
the problem itself but rather fix your eyes upon God; We need to see
God’s grace, to give thanks continually in our hearts and lips and to al-
low God’s power to enter. We need to persist with a mindsight of hope
and be full of faith in God, believing that the changes that we are hoping
for would happen very soon among us.■
Physical Manifestations after His Resurrection
Essence of Sunday SermonEssence of Sunday Sermon
Luke 24: 36-49 ◎Rev. Esther Kong
I. Causing Such Joy to The Extent of Disbelief (Luke 24: 36-41) When the disciples saw the resurrected Jesus, they were joyful to the extent of disbelief because in their minds, death was a scary thing. They saw with their own eyes the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus on the cross and because of that they were unable to believe that the one before them was indeed the living Jesus.
1) Because “Death” Has Once Caused Disappointment in Man The Jews had a negative outlook on the brevity of life. Death is the end of one’s life, signifying that everything a person has in life is thereafter being denied. Death is also the ultimate penalty for sin that God gives to man (Job 14: 7-14)
The disciples thought that Jesus, this descendant of David, the Messiah and the Prince has come to defeat the Romans and to rebuild Israel and the kingdom of David. But the fact was that Je-sus’ kingdom is not of this world, just as He had said before Pon-tius Pilate. The disciples were greatly disappointed by the death of Jesus and now suddenly they were faced with the presence of the resurrected Jesus. This change was so quick and drastic that they were yet to be able to grasp it.
Man will go through two types of death – physical and spiritual death. Christians who are saved do not need to go through the spiritual death and because of this Jesus said that one should fear the God who decides one’s spiritual death. Death is indeed the ultimate end of a person’s life and as such man should accept Je-sus while he is still alive so that he would have hope in his life.
2) Man’s Special Psychological State (Luke 24: 41) When the disciples saw Jesus, they were joyful to the extent of disbelief. This was a psychological conflict state. They were wor-ried that they were imagining things and for that moment, they could not allow themselves to believe their own eyes lest they ended more disappointed if matters proved to be otherwise. So, Jesus held out His hands for them to touch and He ate with them, in order to make them believe that He was indeed resurrected.
The greatest joy in Jesus’ manifestation was a never ending joy because Jesus has defeated death forever.
II. Strengthening Man’s Faith (Luke 24: 42-44) Jesus explained biblical truths to the disciples in order to open the doors to their hearts, that they would understand the Bible. Only testifying of the Bible is not enough, one needs to also understand it. Thomas said he would only believe that Jesus had truly been raised to life if he could see and feel Jesus’ wounds. But Jesus said that those who believed without seeing are more blessed than those who believed only after seeing.
III. Heart Needs To Be Open In Order To Understand God (Luke 24: 45- 48)
Jesus showed Himself so that the disciples’ hearts would be opened and for them to understand the truth that Jesus’ death was neces-sary for the salvation of people. We are unable to save ourselves because a sinner cannot save other sinners, only Jesus the son of God can. As such, Jesus needed to go through death and resurrec-tion, to defeat death on our behalf – this was a necessary event. Lastly, this truth of repentance and salvation needed to be spread to the nations, making people repent and accept Jesus, so that their sins would be forgiven and that they may receive eternal life. Jesus also opens our hearts to understand the Bible, to accept the truth of repentance and salvation, to receive the joyful life.
IV. Receiving The Power of Resurrection (Luke 24: 49) Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit promised by the Father would be bestowed upon them. After His resurrection, Jesus stayed on earth for 40 days to strengthen the disciples’ faith and ten days after He was lifted, the Holy Spirit came.
The power of the Holy Spirit has already come upon us. This power is not something that can only be received during evangelical meetings. Rather, it is something that can be received daily. As such, we should build the habit of being filled by the Spirit daily and allow
the Holy Spirit to be in charge of our lives. ■【This sermon message
