Adhkaar with Faith ( باإليمان األذكار ) – Morning & Evening Supplications
Introduction
Surah Al Isra’a 44: ( وٲت له تسبح ـ م بع ٱلس ن وإن فيہن ومن وٱألرض ٱلس كن بحمدهۦ يسبح إل شىء م ـ ه حهم تسبي تفقهون ل ول إن
ا حليما كان ۥ غفور ) (The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not
a thing but glorifies His Praise. But you understand not their glorification. Truly, He is Ever
Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.)
Amongst the entire seven heavens, the earth and all that is in between, we are like an atom in this
vast and beautiful universe. The animals, the plants, the trees, the mountains – everything is
glorifying Allah (swt), though they are not rewarded for it, subhan Allah. Imagine if we could hear
their glorification, we would feel so ashamed that we are not like this.
Even the angels, a great creation, are praising Allah (swt) constantly, and in the end they say ‘we did
not praise You Allah as you deserve to be praised,’ subhan Allah. The companions asked how can
they do this all the time? The Prophet (pbuh) said just as you breathe, their glorification is like
breathing – it is natural. Just as the dwellers of paradise, their breathing will naturally be ( ، هللا سبحان
اكبر هللا ، هللا ال اله ل ، هلل الحمد ). May Allah (swt) admit us to paradise. Ameen.
Someone who remembers Allah (swt) is different from someone who does not remember Allah.
Why? Because the remembrance of Allah (swt) makes you alive.
Surah Ar Ra’ad 28: ( بذكر قلوبهم وتطمٮ ن ءامنوا ٱلذين بذڪر أل ٱهلل ٱلقلوب تطمٮ ن ٱهلل ) (Those who believed (in the
Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh,
Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest)
Being alive is not about breathing, but about the heart being alive. What is the food for making the
heart alive? The remembrance of Allah (swt). And not only will the heart be alive, but it will also
have tranquility and peace, and this is what we all want and seek.
Sometimes people have everything, but they do not have peace, they cannot even sleep at night,
and they wonder what is the remedy? The only remedy is dhikr Allah, the remembrance of Allah
(swt). Faith and the love of Allah (swt) will increase when we remember Allah (swt).
We can take any book, and read the morning and evening supplications, but what is the point if
there is no movement in the heart, subhan Allah. We want to say our supplications with faith, we
want to understand what we are saying, we want our hearts to move, we want ( باإليمان األذكار ).
Imagine the Prophet (pbuh) said that the supplications are something that needs to be done every
morning and evening, of every day. This means it is essential to our daily routine, but it needs faith.
One of the scholars said, ‘the duniya did not become sweet only with the remembrance of Allah’. So
the moments you remember Allah (swt), these are the most beautiful in your life. And the moments
when you do not remember Allah (swt) then these are the darkest in your life, subhan Allah.

Just as there is no satisfaction without the remembrance of Allah (swt) in the duniya, there will be
no satisfaction with the delights of paradise without seeing the face of Allah (swt). Surah Al Qiyamah
22-23: ( اضرة ہا ناظرة ( ٢٢)وجوه يومٮ ذ ن (٢٢)إلى رب ) (Some faces that Day shall be Nâdirah (shining and
radiant). (22) Looking at their Lord (Allâh); (23))
Ibn Tayymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) used to sit after the fajr prayer and remember Allah
(swt) – and remembrance can be reciting the Quran, making dhikr and supplications, or acquiring
knowledge. He would remain where he was, without turning, remembering Allah (swt) until after
the sun would rise. He would say this is my breakfast, and if I do not have my breakfast, then my
energy will drop. So he knew that his strength comes with the remembrance of Allah, subhan Allah.
Sometimes we find imbalance in our lives, and we wonder why? It is the lack of remembrance of
Allah (swt). We are balanced when we remember Allah.
The time from fajr until sunrise is the time when there is much good, but that is the time when we
want to fall asleep, and the shaitan is there luring us back to our bed. All of the creation of Allah
(swt) is praising Allah (swt) and glorifying Him during this time except two groups – the shayateen
and the foolish of the sons of bani Adam. Then the companions asked the Messenger (pbuh) who
are the foolish of the sons of the bani Adam? He said the worst of creation.
Allah (swt) gave us everything, though few are grateful.
And when you are glorifying Allah (swt), you are in harmony with the creation – you hear the birds,
the wind is blowing, etc.
Hadith: ( رة أبي وعن ه هللا صلى هللا رسول سمعت : قال ، عنه هللا رضي هري فيها، ما ملعون ملعونة، الدنيا إن أل يقول وسلم علي
:Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported) ( " ومتعلما وعالما واله، وما تعالى، هللا ذكر إل
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "Verily! The world is accursed and what it contains is accursed,
except remembrance of Allah and those who associate themselves with Allah; and a learned man,
and a learning person." – At Tirmidhi Book 1, Hadith 478
Of all of the worships, this is the only worship that you need to be obsessed about – the
remembrance of Allah (swt). Allah (swt) did not mention to pray a lot or fast a lot, but do remember
Him much. Surah Al Ahzab 41: ( ہا أي ـ ٱذكروا ءامنوا ٱلذين ي ا ٱهلل ا ذكر كثير ) (O you who believe! Remember
Allâh with much remembrance.)
People ask how can I do dhikr all the time? It does not mean it has to be in the tongue all the time, it
is when you remember Allah (swt) with your heart. Even when you are in a gathering with people or
lying down, your heart is remembering Allah (swt). You can remember anything about Allah (swt) –
all that He has given you, His names and attributes, His actions, etc.
People do not appreciate it when you remember them, and you do not get rewarded for that. But
when you remember Allah (swt), He appreciates it and you are rewarded, subhan Allah.
Surah Al Baqarah 152: ( تكفرون ول لى وٱشڪروا أذكركم فٱذكرونى ) (Therefore remember Me (by praying,
glorifying,). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never
be ungrateful to Me.)
Though all of the creation is remembering Allah (swt), but He appreciates your remembrance more
than the any other creation, why? Because you have a choice, you have a free will to choose, and

you chose to remember Him and Allah (swt) appreciates this. And He will give you more than you
can imagine, subhan Allah.
Hadith: ( رة، أبي عن بي عن هري إن " قال ـ وسلم عليه هللا صلى ـ الن دي مع أنا يقول وجل عز هللا كت ذكرني هو إذا عب بي وتحر
said: "Allah says: 'I am with My (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet) (شفتاه
slave when he remembers Me and his lips move saying My Name.') – Sunan Ibn Majah 3792
The best of remembrance is with tongue and heart together, and then the heart, and the lowest is
the tongue alone.
Dhikr is better than dua’a ( لدعاءا من أفضل الذكر )
People think that when we make dua’a, meaning asking for ourselves, etc, that it is better, but the
best is dhikr – the remembrance of Allah (swt), subhan Allah.
(Narrated 'Atiyyah: from Abu Sa'eed, that the Messenger of Allah
said: "The Lord, Blessed and Most High is He, has said: 'Whoever is too busy with the Qur'an (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)
and remembering Me than asking Me, then I shall give him more than what I give to those who
ask.') – At Tirmidhi Book 45, Hadith 3176
If you are busy making dhikr and it occupied you from making dua’a for yourself, then Allah (swt)
will give you better than the one who is just making dua’a for himself. When you praise, glorify, and
remember Allah (swt), Allah (swt) will give you more than the one who is just invoking Him. Why?
Because he is glorifying and praising the perfection of Allah (swt). Imagine someone coming to a
king, and saying give me this, give me this, it shows lack of manners. And to Allah is the best
example, imagine saying give me this and this without praising Him first, subhan Allah.
Imagine if you have five minutes, and you wonder should I make dua’a or dhikr? The best is dhikr, to
remember Allah (swt). Don’t you know that Allah (swt) knows what is in your heart and don’t you
think He will give you better than what you ask for. This does not mean do not make dua’a, but it
just tells you what is better.
Dhikr and Timings
Imagine Allah (swt) wants us to remember Him in the morning and evening. And sometimes you
wonder why these specific ayat and supplications? Because it protects you from fitnas, from the evil
of yourself, from enemies, and the shaitan. But the main reason is to strengthen your relation with
Allah (swt) and be attached to Him alone.
You are saying I cannot start my day without relying on You, without remembering You. And we
need this twice a day. If you do less, then attachment will be less, the nearness to Allah (swt) will be
less, and the protection will be less, subhan Allah.
When do we make our adkhaar? There is a specific timing, otherwise it would not be called ‘morning
and evening supplications’.
Morning: Morning adkhaar begin from after the fajr prayer until before sunrise (before shurooq).
Suppose you missed it, does it mean that I do not read it? No, go ahead and read it, but it will not
بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيمAdhkaar with Faith ( باإليمان األذكار ) – Morning / Evening Supplications

Page 4
have the same effect as having read it during the valid time. When you read it after the valid time, it
will be like normal dhikr, it will not be considered as ‘morning dhikr’. You will not get the complete
virtues. Think about it, there is no equality between one who prays on time and the one who delays
it, similarly with the adhkaar.
Evening: Evening adkhaar begin from after al asr prayer until after the maghrib prayer, but the best
time is to read earlier – after asr – because that is getting the most protection. The shayateen
spread after maghrib, so when it is read after asr, you are already protected.
These are adkhaar are placed in the order of priority, because sometimes we might not have time to
read all. Most important is ayat al kursi and the last three surahs of the Quran, (المعوذات) because these
are a part of the morning, evening, and sleep supplications. Note that not all of the adkhaar are listed.
Ayat Al Kursi – 1 time –morning and evening

Allâh! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects
all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens
and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He
knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the
Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His
Kursî extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving
them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great – Surah Al Baqarah 255
Ayat Al Kursi is a great ayah because it tells you exactly what is required of you. There was a story of
Ubay ibn Ka’ab (ra) who noticed the dates in his garden were missing. So he decided to see who was
taking them during the night. He noticed a young boy, and when we called him, he didn’t answer.
Then he called him again, and asked are you human or jinn? He said, ‘I am jinn’. Then Ubay ibn Ka’ab
(ra) said let me see your arm, when he saw his arm, it was hairy like a dog’s. He asked him why do
you come here? He said we heard you like to give charity, so we decided to come and take our
share. Then Ubay ibn Ka’ab (ra) asked him to give me something that is protection from your kind
(the jinn). He said, ‘ayat al kursi’. If you read ayat al kursi in the morning, then no jinn will touch you
in harm until the evening, and if you read it in the evening, then no jinn will touch you in harm until
the morning. Then Ubay ibn Ka’ab (ra) told the Prophet (pbuh) about the incident, and the Prophet
(pbuh) said, ( الخبيث صدق ) – the despicable one has told the truth. So this shows you that the
companions verified with the Prophet (pbuh) before doing anything – they followed the Sunnah.
The virtue of ayat al kursi is to first strengthen your attachment to Allah (swt) and then protection
from the jinn.
( ه إل هو ـ ا إل No one deserves my love, my :(Allâh! None has the right to be worshipped but He) (ٱلل ل
tears, and my attachment except Allah (swt). This means I will omit all other ‘idols’ in my life. You
might say I don’t have ‘idols’ in my life. It means anything I am attached to – it can be my spouse,

children, status, work, and even my desires. Anybody else other than Allah (swt) does not deserve
my attachment, it does not mean I hate everyone else, but people say, I cannot live without….a
person, business, etc. This means I am attached to this. Anyone you claim that you cannot live
without, Allah (swt) will show you that you can live without it, subhan Allah. But you cannot live
without Allah (swt). So if you want to save your business, your children, spouse – love them, but
don’t be attached to them, don’t be a slave to them. We are reading this ayah in the morning and
evening because we have so many attachments throughout the day, and Allah (swt) wants us to be
free. Let us see the qualities of Allah (swt), that anyone else besides Him, would not have has these
qualities, and for this reason, you should only be attached to Allah (swt).
( ى ٱلق يوم Allah (swt) is the :(the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists) (ٱلح
One living a real life. Our life is not a real life, we have a date of birth and end date. Everything
around you has a beginning and end, so why should I attach my heart to something that is not ( حى),
that will not live forever? Allah (swt) is the Ever-Living, who is not preceded with nothingness and is
not followed by perishing. Surah Ar Rahman 26-27: ( ل وٱإلكرام ويب ( ٢٢)كل من عليہا فان ـ قى وجه ربك ذو ٱلجل
(٢٢) ) (Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. (26) And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and
Honour will remain forever. (27)). If you attach to something that will die, it will make you scared,
what will happen if they’re gone? Allah (swt) does not want us to be scared, but to live in freedom,
so attach to Him because He will never perish. Allah is ( ٱلقي وم ): Self-Sufficient. Allah (swt) is a Self-
Sufficient Master, He does not need anyone to take care of Him, but we need Him to take care of us.
He is taking charge of taking care of you. While you are asleep, Who is taking care of you and
guarding you? Allah (swt) took charge of all of your provision, guidance, and every affair in your life,
subhan Allah. Who is giving you the ability to even lift a cup of water and drink it? When you are
blinking, breathing, when the birds are flying – Allah (swt) is taking care of all of us. That is why the
scholars said ( ٱلقي وم ٱلحى ) is the combination of all of the names of Allah (swt). ( ٱلحى) represents all of
the personal attributes of Allah (swt) and ( ٱلقي وم) represents all of the ways Allah (swt) is taking care
of us. That is why it is said that (هللا) and ( ٱلقي وم ٱلحى ) are the greatest names of Allah (swt).
( وم ل ن و ة أخذه ۥ سن He is Aware and All - Encompassing :(Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him) (ل ت
of His creation. Imagine we all sleep, and it is said that ( سلطان النوم ) – sleep is authority, meaning it
over takes you no matter what you try to do. But Allah (swt) never sleeps, sleep will never overtake
Him. And when you remember Allah (swt), Allah is there and He remembers you. Imagine
remembering someone, but they are asleep, so why attach to them? Subhan Allah.
( ا فى ٱل رض م ٲت و و ـ ا فى ٱلسم To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on) (له ۥ م
earth): All of us belong to Allah (swt), we don’t own anything – we don’t own ourselves, our
children, our spouse, not even our feelings, we cannot be forced to love or hate something. In this
life, we have the problem of ownership, and there are fights because of this. If we truly believed
that everything belongs to Allah (swt) this would eliminate so many problems. Don’t have
expectations from anyone to give you anything. If you want to have any expectations, have
expectations of Allah (swt) because to Him belongs all in the heavens and the earth, subhan Allah.
When you have expectations from others it will lead to disappointment. If you want anything from
any person, then that is being attached – if you want something, attach to Allah (swt). If you have a
problem, wait at the door of Allah (swt) because He owns the solution, not someone else. Waiting
for anyone else brings you only humiliation, subhan Allah.

( ۦ ه ۥ إل بإذنه شف ع عند ا ٱلذى ي ن ذ :(?Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission) (م
No one can intercede without the permission of Allah (swt). Even the Prophet (pbuh), the best of
creation, cannot intercede without the permission of Allah (swt). Intercession belongs to Allah (swt)
alone. People might ask why is this being mentioned in ayat al kursi? Because people get attached to
others, like imams and walis thinking they can intercede for them. No one can intercede by himself.
Look at the manner it is being mentioned, Allah (swt) is asking ( ٱلذى ذا من ), Who? – Who can try to
intercede without Allah’s permission?
( لف هم ا خ م ين أ يديهم و ا ب عل م م He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what) (ي
will happen to them in the Hereafter): Why do you attach to someone you think is ‘smart’ when
Allah (swt) knows all of the seen and unseen, subhan Allah. And Allah (swt) knows the past, present,
and future. No one knows the details of your life except Allah (swt). Imagine sometimes we get
attached to people because we say ‘they understand us, they get us’. But Allah (swt) knows the
hidden secrets and details of our lives so why attach to someone when Allah (swt) knows everything
about you. He knows you more than you know yourself; He knows what will happen to you, subhan
Allah.
( ااء ا ش ن علمهۦ إل بم ىء م ل يحيطون بش And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except) (و
that which He wills): There are so many secrets in this universe, and don’t you see over time that
Allah (swt) wills when these secrets are to be discovered. Allah (swt) will not show anything of His
knowledge until He wills, subhan Allah. Nobody knows where is the Dajjal or where are Yajuj and
Majuj, though they exist now, but we will only know when Allah (swt) wills, subhan Allah. Only by
Allah’s leave and permission will we get to know. For example, you lose something in your house,
and when Allah wills you, will find it, and most of the time it is right in front of you, subhan Allah.
Even knowledge about Allah (swt), He wills when He will teach you. For example, you might have
been reciting ayat al kursi all along, but now is the right time to learn what it means, subhan Allah.
( ٱل رض ٲت و و ـ سع كرسيه ٱلسم ?What is kursi Allah :(His Kursî extends over the heavens and the earth) (و
This is a creation and it is the footstool of Allah (swt), it is not the throne of Allah (swt), that is called
You have the heavens and the earth which are a great creation. The kursi is a greater .(العرش)
creation than the heavens and the earth, and the throne is an even a greater creation than the kursi.
Do not say that ‘kursi’ is interpreted as ‘majesty or power’, this is incorrect, it is the footstool of
Allah. The size of the heavens and the earth are like a ring thrown in a barren desert relative to the
size of the kursi. And the kursi of Allah is like a ring in a barren desert relative to the size of the
throne of Allah (swt). So imagine the One Who rose over the throne above the seven heavens – He
is so Great. So why attach to something so low? Allah (swt) is saying you are leaving the One Who is
so Great and attaching to who is lower? Subhan Allah.
( ا ـ وده ۥ حفظهم ل ي Imagine the greatness :(And He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them) (و
of the creations, of the heaven and the earth, Allah (swt) will never feel tired from protecting them.
So you oh human, who is so tiny relative to the heavens and the earth, you are like a speck, will He
not protect you if He is protecting the heavens and the earth? Subhan Allah. So the more you know
about this ayah, it really shows you that you only need to be attached to Allah (swt).
( ظيم لى ٱلع هو ٱلع All of the attributes we have spoken of :(And He is the Most High, the Most Great) (و
Allah (swt) are the Most High and the Most Great.

This surah is teaching us ikhlas – sincerity, it is teaching us to renew our intentions all the time and
make it sincere for Allah (swt) alone. How to make your deeds pure? By ikhlas. Ayat Al Kursi is
teaching you to be attached to Allah (swt) alone, and that will protect you. When we are lacking in
ikhlas in our lives, then we need to go back to this surah.

who understands me, this is ‘the only one’ who can solve my problem, etc. If I do not worship Allah
(swt) in the way He deserves to be worshipped, then there are others who worship Him. And He
does not need our worship, He is the Most Rich, we need to worship Him. Anything we go through
in our life should tell us that Allah (swt) is unique, His creation is unique. Though we are humans, we

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh) the Lord of the daybreak, (1) "From the evil of what He has created; (2)
"And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or
goes away) (3) "And from the evil of those who practise witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, (4)
"And from the evil of the envier when he envies." (5)
Surah Al Falaq and Surah An Nass were revealed at the same time. Magic was done on the Prophet
(pbuh) and this shows us that magic can happen, but it took place on the Prophet (pbuh) so that we
can have these surahs revealed as a protection from all evils. The Prophet (pbuh) was only affected
by forgetting slightly. No evil can stand before Surah Al Falaq and Surah An Nass, subhan Allah.
There are so many bad things that we are unaware of, but with these surahs it is telling you to not
worry. The adhkaar are like an armor, the stronger your faith, the stronger the effect. But when
there is no faith, the effect is weak, subhan Allah.

Surah Al Falaq is a protection from external harm and Surah An Nass is a protection from what is
more severe, the hidden enemy, which is the shaitan.
(قل أعوذ برب الفلق) (Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh) the Lord of the daybreak): I seek refuge, which
means security, a stronghold, a secure place. I feel so desperate and so scared so I am seeking
refuge with which name of Allah (swt)? ( الفلق برب ), the (ب) shows isti’ana, seeking help. (رب) is My
Nurturer and Reformer, Allah is the Rabb of everyone. What does (الفلق) mean? To split, split
between what? Between the night and day, between falsehood and truth, and to split open the
seed. Who will split the seed to make it grow? And this shows you how powerful Allah (swt) is. He is
the Lord of this very split of this small seed, subhan Allah. How does the morning come, the
evening? Like it is being split. And this shows you that Allah (swt) is taking care of all of these
splittings. So I seek refuge in the One Who is able to split even the smallest seed, so will He not be
able to protect me from what is greater? Subhan Allah. So why (الفلق), because it is a very tiny thing.
When you read this with faith, nothing can harm you, not even the smallest thing. How I think about
Allah (swt) is how He deals with me. Remember this hadith: ( رة، أبي عن رسول أن هري وسلم عليه هللا صلى هللا
قال " قال د أنا هللا دي ظن عن said, "Allah said, 'I (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger) (. " بي عب
am to my slave as he thinks of Me, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him).) – Al
Bukhari 7505. If I think this scorpion will bite me, then it will bite. But if I am in the jungle
surrounded by lions, and recite this faith, then Allah (swt) will protect me. It will protect me from
four things:
o (من شر ما خلق) (From the evil of what He has created): Allah (swt) created many things –
humans, jinn, animals, plants, etc. But even in these creations, there is an evil in them,
there is even an evil in ourselves. Any evil that anyone has, even from ourselves, then
Allah (swt) will protect us from this. We will not be harmed from any animal, insect,
virus, etc.
o ( ق ب ا و اسق إذ ر غ من ش And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its) (و
darkness): (غاسق) is the start of the night, and this begins at maghrib, that is why the
best time to read the evening supplications is after asr so that you are ready by maghrib.
At that time of maghrib, the Prophet (pbuh) said to keep your children inside, because
that is the time when the devils spread. And this shows you that evil is more prominent
at night. Magic, sorcery, crimes, etc predominately take place at night.
o ( ت فى ٱلعق د ـ ث ـ ر ٱلنف من ش And from the evil of those who practise witchcrafts when they) (و
blow in the knots): The time when the magic will hurt and take its effect is when the
knot is made and it is blown in to. That is why the magicians take something personal,
like hair, used clothing, nails, even discharge, istaghfar Allah. They make a knot, and
they blow on it. Their soul is evil, so the breath that comes out from them is evil. This
can happen to anyone, so instead of stressing who would do this to me, etc, recite Surah
Al Falaq. Read it with full faith and not even the most powerful magician can hurt you.
Why is (النفاثات) feminine? Because most of the magicians and sorcerers are females,
subhan Allah. Those engaged in magic or who go to magicians have committed disbelief
and shirk. So when we read this with faith, it will have no harm on us. Maybe someone
is trying to do it to us, but it will have no effect.

o ( د س ا ح اسد إذ ر ح من ش Some people put :(And from the evil of the envier when he envies) (و
the eye amulets, hand, etc as if it will protect from hasad, but all of this is shirk. You
have this Surah instead. When will the envy be harmful? The time when the envier
envies. Imagine you are going outside all the time, you cannot just hide, you have Surah
Al Falaq. Sometimes even the mother can have hasad towards her children, she could be
looking at them and admiring them, and can envy them without knowing. Sometimes
you don’t know how the evil of the envier can come. Though you don’t mean it, but it
can hit. But remember nothing can happen without the permission of Allah (swt).
Surah An Nass ( الناس سورة ) – 3 times – morning and evening

Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh) the Lord of mankind, (1) "The King of mankind — (2) "The Ilâh (God) of
mankind, (3) "From the evil of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who
withdraws (from his whispering in one's heart after one remembers Allâh), (4) "Who whispers in the
breasts of mankind, (5) "Of jinn and men." (6)
Surah An Nass is protecting us from the hidden, invisible evil. You are seeking refuge against one evil
while using three names of Allah. Whereas in Surah Al Falaq, you are seeking refuge against four
evils, using only one name of Allah, subhan Allah.
If you take the four outer evils of Surah Al Falaq, who is behind each one? It is the shaitan, subhan
Allah.
The name of this Surah is An Nass (الناس) – Mankind, because if you are a child of bani Adam, then
the shaitan has declared enmity against you. Before you were even born, he is in war with you, so
don’t make a peace treaty with the shaitan. You have Surah An Nass to remind you that you are
against the shaitan, and you have three names of Allah (swt) to defeat this enemy, subhan Allah.
( ب ٱلناس You are seeking refuge in :(Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh) the Lord of mankind) (قل أ عوذ بر

discourage me to do it. He has no power or control over me, he only whispers, and he is hidden. If
prayer will take me to paradise, he will discourage me, being dutiful to parents, he will discourage
me. Anything that will take me to hell, he will encourage me to do it and he will beautify it. But don’t
be scared from him, because he is (خناس), meaning he will withdraw as soon as you remember Allah
(swt). That is why if you get angry, you feel so hot and frustrated, say ( الرجيم الشيطان من باهلل اعوذ ). The
shaitan comes at the time of anger, and he starts to give you ideas of what to say. That is why in a
time of anger, don’t say anything, just leave the room, but when you surrender to the shaitan, then
he will dictate you. That is why at this time, you need to remember Allah (swt). He will withdraw and
leave you.
( سوس فى صدور ٱلناس The place of wiswas, the :(Who whispers in the breasts of mankind) (ٱلذى يو

( ٱلناس This means from the shaitan of the jinn and the shaitan of the :(Of jinn and men) (من ٱلجنة و
humans. So Surah An Nass is a protection from both types of shayateen, the jinn and humans. The
jinn of humans are taking commands from the shaitan, and they are more severe because you can
see them – they are encouraging you to do bad and discouraging you from doing good.

In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or
in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing. – At Tirmidhi 3388
When you recite this in the morning and evening, it will protect you from any harm – no poison, no
burns, etc.
(بسم هللا) (In the Name of Allah): In the name of Allah (swt), I will rely.
(الذي ل يضر مع اسمه شئ في الرض و ل في السماء) (With Whose Name there is protection against every
kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven): Not a single thing will harm me when I am
accompanying Allah (swt), when I am relying and trusting Allah (swt). How will you accompany Allah
(swt)? Of course not physically, but when you remember Him. Not a single harm from the heavens,
the earth, or the creation can harm me when I am with Allah (swt). So when I am with Allah (swt), I
am secure, but when I am not with Allah (swt), I am in danger and I am exposed, subhan Allah. So be
with Allah and nothing will harm you.
(و هو السميع العليم) (And He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing): Look at the two names of Allah (swt)
that are accompanied in this dhikr. Allah (swt) is (السميع) All-Hearer of anything that can harm you,
even a whisper that can come to you. And He is (العليم) – All Knowing of everything, some people are
plotting or want to do something bad against you, but Allah (swt) knows this and can stop this.

reported, the Mother of the Believers: The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) came out from my apartment in the
morning as I was busy in performing the dawn prayer. He came back in the forenoon and found me
sitting there. The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, "Are you still in the same position as I left you." I replied in the
affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet said, "I recited four words three times after I had left you. If
these are to be weighed against all you have recited since morning, these will be heavier. These are:
Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, 'adada khalqihi, wa rida nafsihi, wa zinatah 'arshihi, wa midada
kalimatihi [Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number
of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal
to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise)].")
(سبحان هللا و بحمده) (Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise): This is the core of the
dhikr, you are saying ( هللا سبحان ) – glorifying Allah (swt) by negating any imperfections of Allah (swt).
Meaning there is nothing negative in this universe, all of Allah’s actions are positive, and nothing is
negative. If there is anything negative in this world, it is from the people’s actions, not from Allah’s
action. Whether it is sunny or raining, it is all good. ( بحمده و ) – I praise Allah (swt), I affirm all positive
things about Allah (swt). So I negate anything negative about Allah (swt) and I attribute all things
positive to Allah (swt). When you say ( بحمده و هللا سبحان ) 100 times, this eliminates your sins.
So instead of repeating ( هبحمد و هللا سبحان ) - by saying this dhikr, you are saying it the number of:
(عدد خلقه) (As many times as the number of His creatures): Can you encompass or count how many
creations of Allah that exist? No. So you are saying, may I say ( بحمده و هللا سبحان ) the number of times
of all Your creation Oh Allah, subhan Allah.
(ورضا نفسه) (And His pleasure): Can you even put a number to the pleasure of Allah (swt)? No, it is so
high in status and honor. So you are asking that may I say ( بحمده و هللا سبحان ) the number of times that
will make You pleased Oh Allah, subhan Allah.
(وزنة عرشه) (And by the weight of His throne): You are asking to say (سبحان هللا و بحمده) according to
the weight of Allah’s throne, and there is nothing heavier than the throne of Allah (swt), subhan
Allah.
( ومداد كلماته) (And the ink of His words): You want your (سبحان هللا و بحمده) to reach the words of Allah
(swt), and the words of Allah (swt) are unlimited. There is no limitation for ( بحمده و هللا سبحان ), there is
no limit in its quantity, weight, and quality. That is why ( كلماته مداد ) includes all of the previous three.

Allah (swt) is addressing the Prophet (pbuh) to give him console – people that were close and near
to him were now rejecting him as he was delivering the message. So Allah (swt) is telling him to have
patience, but how to have patience? By remembering Allah (swt), negating any imperfection and
affirming all perfection of Allah (swt). And when to do this? Before the rising and setting of the sun,
subhan Allah.
Don’t forget the adhkaar, sometimes we might forget to eat breakfast, quickly rush in the mornings,
but don’t forget your adhkaar. And why are we doing this? So that Allah (swt) may be pleased with
us. Don’t you know the pleasure of Allah (swt) is better than paradise? Why? Because paradise is a
creation, but the pleasure of Allah (swt) is an attribute, subhan Allah.
Our goal is to have the pleasure of Allah (swt) so we want to remember Allah (swt) with faith, we
want ( باإليمان األذكار ).
Hadith: ( ه قال عن رة رضي هللا ه وسلم : عن أبي هري علي بي صلى هللا قال الن

said: Allah the Almighty said: I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention
of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes
mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assemble better than it. And if he draws
near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I
go to him at speed. It was related by al-Buhkari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah).) –
Hadith 15
We need to think good and firm about Allah (swt), do not say ‘in sha’a Allah’ after your dua’a, be
firm that I want this, I need this. Imagine Allah (swt) will be with you with His protection and support
when you remember Him. When you remember Allah (swt) alone, Allah (swt) will remember you,
and when you remember Allah (swt) in a study circle, He will remember you in a greater assembly,
amongst the angels.
When you say little, even if it is ( هللا سبحان ) – Allah (swt) will remember you more, when you come
closer to Allah (swt), meaning wanting to seek the pleasure of Allah (swt), He will come to you more.
If you come to Him walking, He will come to you running, subhan Allah. Imagine the Master coming
to the servant, subhan Allah.

Thereupon he said: Had you recited these words in the evening:" I seek refuge in the Perfect Word

Book 48, Hadith 73
Nothing will harm you when you say this dhikr – no animal, insect, poison, food poisoning, cut, etc.
And usually you say this when going to the wilderness, like the desert, forest, etc.
Even if a scorpion bites you, and you read this dhikr it will not affect you. There was a girl during the
time of the Prophet (pbuh) who read this after having been bitten by a snake, and the poison did not
affect her after saying this dhikr, subhan Allah. We have to say it with faith.
(أعوذ بكلمات هللا التامات) (I seek refuge with the Perfect Words of Allah): Notice we are seeking refuge
with the Perfect Words of Allah (swt), in the previous dhikrs we are seeking refuge in other
attributes of Allah. Allah (swt) speaks, He has a voice and makes statements, but we in the duniya
cannot understand it, we cannot encompass the Words of Allah. The Words of Allah are perfect and
complete, nothing needs to be added to the words of Allah (swt). The religion of Allah (swt) is also
perfect and complete, we do not need to add anything to it. Surah Al Maeda 3: ( دينكم لكم أكملت ٱليوم

Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion.)

Allâh would not be exhausted. Verily, Allâh is All¬Mighty, All¬Wise) – If all of the trees
were pens, and the seas were ink – the pen and ink would be exhausted but not the
words of Allah (swt).
(من شر ما خلق) (from the evil of what He has created): You are seeking refuge from the evil of any
creation – be it human, animal, plant, and even objects – we can even get hurt by machines.

Allah (swt) has obliged upon himself to make the one who says this with faith, to be pleased both in
the duniya and akhira, subhan Allah. In the duniya he will be satisfied with what he has and in the
akhira, Allah (swt) will gather the dwellers of paradise and He will ask them, are you content? They
will say Rabb Al Alameen, You brightened our faces, You saved us from the hellfire, and You gave us
all of this. Allah will say, I will give you something better than this, I will be pleased with you, never
angry with you.
Imagine just hearing this will make them forget all of the delights of paradise, subhan Allah. And
when Allah (swt) is pleased, then He will remove the veil from His face, and allow the dwellers of
paradise to see him, may Allah (swt) make us amongst them, ameen. Out of Allah’s mercy, He
covered His face with a veil now because anything that sees Him will burn from of His beauty. That is
why the greatest delight is to see the face of Allah and He is pleased with you.
When you say this dhikr, then Allah (swt) will surely make you content in the duniya and akhira.
What makes this dhikr so special? Three statements that we need to say with faith, we cannot say
them and do the contrary.
(ا ب ضيت بالل ر This is our action, ‘I am pleased with Allah as a :(I am pleased with Allah as (my) Lord) (ر
Rabb’. What does this mean? I am pleased and accepting of whatever Allah decrees for me.
Sometimes we have trouble accepting decrees because we wonder, why did she say this, why did
they do that to me, etc, but we have to accept anything decreed by Allah, we have to remind
ourselves to say ( رضيت ا باهلل رب ). And remember the decree of Allah (swt) is not random, it comes with
knowledge and wisdom – it is for your nurturing and your own good in order to upgrade you.
(باإلسال م دينا This is to renew your contract as a Muslim. Maybe you :(with Islam as (my) religion) (و
are born a Muslim, but you have to renew it, and accept Islam as your religion. Religion means the
way you will follow. What does it mean to be a Muslim?
o It means submission to Allah with tawheed, you surrender to One, not many.
o And once you surrender in your heart to the will of One Lord, you follow all that has
been commanded by your limbs – these are the pillars of Islam – praying, fasting, etc.
Once your heart submits, you will see that your limbs will automatically submit, subhan
Allah.
o You free yourself from any shirk and mushrikeen. For example, when people accepted
Islam, they still had small idols in their home, or anything related to shirk, when you
accept Islam you do not attach yourself to others – be it messengers, angels, imams, etc.
(ا بي مد )ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص( ن بمح I am accepting Mohammed :(.and with Muhammad (pbuh) as (my) Prophet) (و
(pbuh) as a Prophet. What does it mean? I need to obey whatever he has commanded and forbade,
whatever news he is telling me of the unseen, I need to believe it – be it about the Dajjal, Ascension
(Isra’a), etc. People say I do not follow the Sunnah, only the Quran, but Allah (swt) commands us in
the Quran to follow the Prophet (pbuh), so this means following his Sunnah. So I am pleased with his
Sunnah – I do not hear about it and dislike it. Also, we do not need anyone to prove to us that the
commands of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (pbuh) are good. People will not believe in the Sunnah
until a scientist verifies it, like honey is a remedy, black seed, sleeping on the right, etc subhan Allah.
Do not put anyone before Allah (swt) and His Messenger (pbuh).

him) said: The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, "The best supplication for seeking forgiveness (Syed-ul- Istighfar)
is to say: 'Allahumma Anta Rabbi, la ilaha illa Anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka, wa ana 'ala 'ahdika

true god except You. You have created me, and I am Your slave, and I hold to Your Covenant as far
as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge the favours that You
have bestowed upon me, and I confess my sins. Forgive me, for none but You has the power to
forgive).' He who supplicates in these terms during the day with firm belief in it and dies on the
same day (before the evening), he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah; and if anyone supplicates in
these terms during the night with firm belief in it and dies before the morning, he will be one of the
dwellers of Jannah.") – Al Bukhari Book 20, Hadith 1875
Whoever reads it with yaqeen, full certainty, in the morning and the evening, and he dies, then he
will enter paradise.
Notice the names and attributes of Allah (swt) being mentioned, this means we need this in our
daily life.
(اللهم أنت ربي، ل إله إل أنت) (O Allah! You are my Rabb. There is no true god except You): (اللهم) means
‘Oh Allah’, so before seeking forgiveness, you have to praise Allah (swt) first. It is as if you are
making tawwasul – you are begging Allah (swt) by His names and attributes, you don’t need to make
tawwasul via another person, like a messenger or imam. You are confessing ‘Allah, You are My
Rabb’, and we have to remind ourselves of this because we can forget it. You Allah My Rabb are
taking care of me and disposing my affairs. There is no ilah but You, so I will not praise, magnify,
love, and wait for the reward except You. Remember you are dealing with Allah (swt), and He sees
how you are dealing with others. If you are good to the people, Allah (swt) will be good to you. If
you are merciful to the people, then Allah (swt) will be merciful to you, if you pardon others, then
He will pardon you, subhan Allah.

(خلقتني وأنا عبدك) (You have created me, and I am Your slave): Now you are making tawwasul by your
condition. You are saying, ‘You created me, and I am Your servant’ – I am not a servant to my
spouse, my children, my job, not even to myself. To be a slave means to be very humiliated and low.
I am serving the One who created me. Even if you are doing things for others or for yourself, then
keep in mind you are doing it for the sake of Allah (swt), you are serving Allah.
(وأنا على عهدك ووعدك ما استطعت) (And I hold to Your Covenant as far as I can): You are saying that as
much as I can, I am following Your rules, and the part of (استطعت) – shows that we cannot be perfect.
is Your covenant on me, which is to worship You because that is Your right – that is the right (عهدك)
of Allah. What keeps you on Allah’s covenant? (وعدك) Allah’s promises to you. You promised us if we
have taqwa, You will make a way for us. You promised us if we are grateful, You will increase us. You
promised us if we believe and do good deeds, then we will have a good life in the duniya and akhira,
subhan Allah. And this shows you that our capacity and ability is limited – we cannot be perfect, and
this solves the problem of those obsessed with perfection. We are all humans and we make
mistakes, don’t have expectations from people to be perfect because it is ( استطعت ما ). Don’t give
people more than what they can handle, accept whatever they give you – be it good or bad.
(أعوذ بك من شر ما صنعت) (I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done): After all the
previous parts, which are tawassul and confession, now you seek refuge from any evil you did in the
past. Notice this dhikr is about ‘istighfar’ though we have not seeked forgiveness yet, subhan Allah.
Before I can ask forgiveness, I need to seek refuge from the evil of my deeds. Maybe in my past I did
wrong things, I did evil to others or myself, so no one can give me that protection but You. We are
seeking refuge from the evil of our deeds, for example, if we were not praying or backbiting, then
we don’t want these bad deeds to affect us because bad deeds will negatively affect a person.
(أبوء لك بنعمتك علي) (I acknowledge the favours that You have bestowed upon me): You are
confessing and admitting to all of the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you, and whatever
blessings you have are what suits you – be it wealth, knowledge, etc. And this teaches you to not be
jealous of others because that is Allah’s blessing upon them, it is what suits them, but doesn’t suit
me. And in the end, we are all equal in the duniya provision, just in different combinations. Allah
(swt) gives the duniya to all, it is not a proof of His love. For example, someone might have wealth,
but they cannot bear children, or another might have many children but no wealth – in the end we
are all equal in duniya.
(وأبوء بذنبي) (And I confess my sins): Now you are feeling so down and low, confessing and admitting
to your sins. Imagine if we were to gather the most intelligent people to write a dhikr like this, no
one would even know where to start, subhan Allah.
(فاغفر لي فإنه ل يغفر الذنوب إل أنت) (Forgive me, for none but You has the power to forgive): You need
to say this in the end because no one can forgive you except Allah (swt). Alhamdulliah that our sins
are just between us and Allah (swt) and Allah (swt) does not want us to talk about our sins to others
– Allah (swt) likes that we conceal our sins. Imagine if you had to confess your sins to someone, you
would feel so ashamed, you would not even be able to speak of the details. Allah (swt) does not like
those who speak of their sins, hadith: ( من وإن المجاهرين، إل معافى أمتي كل " : يقول وسلم عليه هللا صلى هللا رسول
ربه، يستره بات وقد وكذا، كذا البارحة عملت فالن يا : فيقول عليه هللا ستره وقد يصبح ثم عمال، الليلب الرجل يعمل أن المجاهرة

wrongdoings. An example of this is that of a man who commits a sin at night which Allah has
covered for him, and in the morning, he would say (to people): "I committed such and such sin last
night,' while Allah had kept it a secret. During the night Allah has covered it up but in the morning he
tears up the cover provided by Allah Himself.") – Bukhari Book 1, Hadith 241. Even if you have been
guided, do not speak of your past sins because it can show arrogance or boasting as if I used to do
this but now I don’t. Those who concealed their sins in the duniya then Allah (swt) will screen them
in the akhira.
`Umar said, "I heard the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) saying, 'The Believer will be brought near his Lord." (Hisham,
a sub-narrator said, reporting the Prophet's words), "The believer will come near (his Lord) till his
Lord covers him with His screen and makes him confess his sins. (Allah will ask him), 'Do you know
(that you did) 'such-and-such sin?" He will say twice, 'Yes, I do.' Then Allah will say, 'I concealed it in
the world and I forgive it for you today.') – Al Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 4731. Sometimes we don’t
even know all of our sins, but we need to always seek istighfar and follow it with good deeds. People
can get depressed from their sins, so you need to quickly make istighfar to remove the sadness.
There is always a chance for a u-turn with Allah (swt), Allah (swt) loves those who feel guilty of their
sins, repent, and return to Him and Allah (swt) forgives them. Never doubt Allah’s forgiveness. With
your istighfar, it shows your humbleness – you are not proud, and Allah (swt) wants your
submission. Solve this equation – someone who commits sins and enters paradise and another does
good deeds and enters the hellfire. The one who committed sins was so regretful and repentant to
Allah (swt) that he enters paradise. And the one doing good deeds was so proud and did it for the
people’s sake so it made him enter the hellfire. That is why no one knows the hearts except Allah
(swt), we should not judge.
( بحمده و هللا سبحان ) – 100 times – morning and evening
Glory be to Allah and to Him is all praise. – Muslim 2692
Hadith: ( رة أبي عن رسول أن ـ عنه هللا رضى ـ هري حان قال من " قال وسلم عليه هللا صلى هللا سب ده هللا م في . وبحم ة مائة يو مر

says, 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,' one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they

Just like the small bits of foam, such sins will be wiped away.

that lies in this night and from the evil of that which follows it. My Rubb! I seek refuge in You from
lethargy and the misery of old age. O Allah! I seek Your Protection from the torment of Hell-fire and
the punishment of the grave)." When it was morning, he (PBUH) would recite the same, replacing the
words: "We have entered upon evening and the whole kingdom of Allah, too, has entered upon
evening" with "We have entered upon morning and the whole kingdom of Allah entered upon
morning."– Muslim 2723
(أصبحنا وأصبح الملك لل) / (We have entered upon morning and the whole kingdom of Allah entered
upon morning) / For the evening (أمسينا و أمسى الملك لل) / (We have entered upon evening and the
whole kingdom of Allah entered upon evening) : You are saying as you enter the morning/evening,
I am entering by Allah’s blessings in the morning/evening, and the dominion and kingdom belongs
only to Allah (swt). So I am telling myself when I enter the morning/evening, I do not own anything –
all that I have belongs to Allah (swt) – my house, children, parents, etc all belongs to Allah, and this
will make us very humble. Can anyone try to delay the rising of the sun even one minute? No one
can do it, and it shows you truly everything belongs to Allah (swt).
(والحمد لل) (Praise is due to Allah): We are praising Allah (swt) and saying alhamdulliah that the
dominion belongs to Him. We cannot say (الحمد) to the people, only to Allah (swt), because it means
to attribute the perfection and that belongs to Allah alone. We say ‘shukr’ to the people.
(ل إله إل هللا وحده ل شريك له) (There is none who has the right to be worshiped but Allah, the One who
has no partner with Him): There is no partner in His dominion, alhamdulliah. There is no partner in
His creation, alhamdulliah. There is no partner in His names and attributes, alhamdulliah.
(له الملك وله الحمد) (His is the sovereignty and to Him is all praise due): Again we are repeating ( له الملك
الحمد وله ) together because Allah (swt) has control over everything and He deserves all praises.
Sometimes we can own things, but it is not praised. We have our bodies, but we can spoil it. Or we
have a house, but we put rules that destroy it, subhan Allah.
(وهو على كل شيء قدير) (And He is able to do all things): You don’t own anything in this life, except
your good deeds and sins, and when you die, everything goes except your deeds. That is why you
should love your good deeds more than anything else because they will accompany you in the grave.
In the dominion of Allah (swt), whatever He wills, He is able to do it, and this gives you so much
power and hope because you know that nothing is difficult for Allah, He is able to do all things. All of
the previous parts of the dhikr are all tawassul, praising Allah (swt). And now what are we asking?

(رب أسألك خير ما في هذا الصباح) (My Rabb, I beg of you good that lies in this morning) / For the
evening: (رب أسألك خير ما في هذا المساء) (My Rabb, I beg of you good that lies in this evening): Because
Allah (swt) You own all of the dominion, You are praiseworthy in Your actions, and You are able to
do all things, then I ask You, to decree all of the good for me in the day. And ‘good’ is very vast – it is
goodness in the duniya and akhira. It can be knowledge, performing good deeds, etc. So instead
going about asking I want this for myself, for my children, etc. – by saying this dhikr you are asking
for all goodness, subhan Allah. And this shows you as well that the dua’a can change the decree.
People say why should I bother asking for something if it is already decreed? This dhikr is showing us
that we need to ask for good because perhaps my asking will change what is decreed by the will of
Allah, subhan Allah.
(وخير ما بعده) (And good that follows it) / For the evening: (وخير ما بعدها) (And good that follows it):
And for the future, I also want goodness. As if this is the ‘back-up’ part of the dhikr, in case you miss
saying it afterwards. And if you say this sincerely, then it is goodness forever, because the dhikr did
not limit it to the next day, subhan Allah.
(وأعوذ بك من شر ما في هذا الصباح وشر ما بعده) (And I seek refuge in You from the evil that lies in this
morning and from the evil of that which follows it) / For the evening ( وأعوذ بك من شر ما في هذا المساء
And I seek refuge in You from the evil that lies in this morning and from the evil of) (وشر ما بعدها
that which follows it): I am seeking refuge in You Allah from all bad things, because You are the King
and You are Praiseworthy and You are able to do all things – protect me from anything bad that has
not taken place yet, be it my sins, or someone doing bad to me.
(رب أعوذ بك من الكسل) (My Rabb! I seek refuge in You from lethargy): Now you are seeking refuge
particularly from laziness. To be lazy means I have the power to do it, but I am not doing it. And this
is a great enemy to the self because it is stopping us from so much goodness.
(وسوء الكبر) (And the misery of old age): We will all grow, but when we grow, we don’t want the evil
of old age. As we get older, mental, physical problems become more prominent. We are not saying, I
don’t want to grow older, but I don’t want it to be difficult as I get older, and don’t want to be a
difficulty on others either, subhan Allah. And being lazy is similar to this, you can be young, but you
are being difficult on your self and others when lazy.
( رب أعوذ بك من عذاب النار، وعذاب في القبر) (My Rabb! I seek Your Protection from the torment of Hell-
fire and the punishment of the grave): You are seeking refuge from the torment of the hellfire and
the grave.

For the morning: ( وإليك النشور) (And to You is the resurrection): With your help and protection, I am

For the evening ( وإليك المصير) (And to You is the return): This means the final destination of mine is
that I will stand before Allah (swt). So don’t stress about anything in the duniya, because to Allah
(swt) is the resurrection and final destination. Notice how all the adhkaars revolve around Allah

my sins to be exposed either. For example, sometimes we might faint or get in an accident, and you
don’t want anybody that is not supposed to see your awra to see it. It also means to cover my
mistakes, meaning I don’t want others to see my faults because we know that others can be
judgmental.
(اتي وع آمن ر Give me the security – make me secure from all fears, worries, or :(And calm my fears) (و
anything that can make me sad. And this is in the plural because it shows you we can face so many
of these things throughout the day, subhan Allah.

( اللههم فاطر السموات واألرض) (O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth): Al Fatir is the One Who
initiates the creation without any model before. Allah (swt) is able to make new things, He is the
Originator.
( ة اد الشه يب و الم الغ He is the All-Knower of the seen and the :(Knower of the unseen and the seen) (ع
unseen, notice the attributes of Allah (swt) that are being mentioned so far.
( ل إل ه إل أ نت) (There is none worthy of worship except You): I do not need to attach to anyone except
Allah (swt). Allah (swt) is the Originator, the Knower of the Seen and Unseen, so why should I attach
to anything other than Him? Notice ( ت إل إله ل أن ) appears many times in different dhikrs, subhan
Allah – everything is about tawheed.
( ه ليك م يء و ب كل ش Allah is the Rabb of everything, even the :(Lord of everything and its Owner) (ر
smallest atom, and He is taking care of everything by default because is the King and Owner of
everything. So, You Allah are the Lord and the King of everything. Imagine telling yourself this every
night and day. Notice in Islam it’s not about focusing on yourself, but about Allah, and that is what
gives you strength.
(فسي ر ن ,The self is both good and bad :(I seek refuge in You from the evil of my self) (أ عوذ بك من ش
but we are seeking refuge from our self which enjoins to evil. So You Allah are my Originator, the All-
Knower, there is no Ilah but You, My Rabb and Malik; I am seeking refuge in all of these names of
Yours from the evil of myself. Why so many names? Because our self can lead us to destruction,
both in the duniya and akhira.
( كه ر ش ان و ر الشيط من ش Allah (swt) wants us to be :(and from the evil of Shaitan and his Shirk / plots) (و
attached to Him, but what makes us to divert and commit shirk? The shaitan. And notice the nafs,
the self, is mentioned before the shaitan because the nafs is a greater enemy than the shaitan. The
shaitan whispers an idea, but it is that nafs implements the idea and commits the sin. Never make a
peace treaty between the shaitan and your nafs because that will be a ride to destruction. That is
why we have a constant struggle with the self, and the shaitan knows your weak points.
(فسي سوءا ل ى ن أ ن أ قت رف ع You are seeking refuge from :(Or that I should do some evil to myself) (و
Allah (swt) to not allow my self to destroy me, subhan Allah. Surah Ash Shams 10: ( ٮها من خاب وقد دس )

subhan Allah. Imagine if everyone in the house was reading this with faith, there would there be no
problems, there would be peace in the house, subhan Allah. Imagine if all of those around you were
reading this faith, how would this change the society? Subhan Allah. May Allah (swt) allow us to act
upon this. Ameen.

This dhikr is good for confidence because it teaches us the correct confidence.
(يا حي يا قيوم) (O Ever Living, O Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all): The One who has a perfect life
and is taking charge of everything.
(برحمتك استغيث) (by Your mercy I seek assistance): I am begging You by Your Mercy, and this shows
confidence. Confidence is not about repeating to yourself – ‘I am confident’ ‘I am successful’, etc. It
is about (استغيث) which is begging intensely and being desperately torn to have the mercy of Allah
(swt).
(أصلح لي شأني كله) (Rectify for me all of my affairs): Make all of my affairs good and fix it for me
because my affairs are broken and they need to be fixed. When we say this dhikr, we don’t want to
worry about our house, what to make for food, groceries, errands, etc. Instead of naming your
affairs, you are telling Allah (swt) to fix all of your affairs. This is the short and easy way.
(و ل تكلني إلى نفسي طرفة عين) (And do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye): Don’t
allow me to rely on myself, not even for a blink of an eye, to fix my affairs. Sometimes we have so
many things on our agenda when we start the day, so I don’t want to rely on myself to fix my affairs,
I want to rely on You. And this dhikr shows us that we can easily fall into thinking that I can cook, do
the groceries, drive, etc but I cannot for a blink of an eye be without Allah, subhan Alah.
Experiences, knowledge, righteousness, and our environment and surroundings can make us
confident, but I don’t want to be confident for a moment, not even when I drink water. And this is
the correct confidence – to have confidence in Allah (swt), not in ourselves. So after saying this
dhikr, you have your confidence, no stress in shopping, no stress in driving, no stress in raising your
children, etc.
( قدير شيء كل على وهو الحمد، وله الملك له له، شريك ل وحده هللا إل إله ل ) – 100 times – throughout the day
There is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him. His is the sovereignty and
His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. – An Nisa’i 821
Virtues of this dhikr:
o Reward of freeing 10 slaves
o 100 good deeds, and remember each good deed is multiplied 10 to 700 times to
multiple rewards, depending on sincerity and faith
o 100 sins forgiven
o Protection from the shaitan
o No one will be better than him except someone who is saying it more than 100 times
with faith – and no one knows this except Allah (swt), make Allah make it easy for us.
Ameen.
