Introduction

• The aim of this project is mainly to implement the credit card security system with SMS confirmation to provide a secured banking system.

• Since every person having a credit card almost has a mobile phone, it will be easy to confirm the authentication of a credit card with a mobile phone.

Operation

• Here in this project we are going to provide the at most security since it is taking the SMART CARD as the first authentication.

• After conformation, system activates the GSM modem.

• If user of credit card is valid person, then the user will get confirmation message from the modem on his cell phone.

• If user is not an authorized user there will be no confirmation, thus the user of credit card can’t perform any transactions.

Technical Operation

• Whenever user inserts credit card into the reader, it will read the information and fetches to the controller.

• As soon as controller gets the information from the card reader it will activates the GSM modem for confirmation.

• GSM modem replies to the controller by sending a SMS through network paths using AT commands.

• After getting confirmation from the modem user will perform transactions.

• After this the memory of the system gets erased for the next transaction to occur.

COMPONENTS

• Micro Controller

• Smart Card Reader

• GSM modem

• LCD

• Keypad

• Max-232

• Latch

• EEPROM

MICRO CONTROLLER

• A micro controller consists of a powerful CPU coupled with peripherals.

• General on chip peripherals include A to D converters, flash memory, interrupt controller, etc.

• The microcontroller we are using in our project is ATMEL AT98C51.

FEATURES OF AT89C51• Compatible with MCS-51 products• 4k Bytes of in-system

Reprogrammable flash memory• Fully static operation: 0HZ to

24MHZ• Three level programmable clock• 128 * 8 –bit timer/counters• Six interrupt sources• Programmable serial channel• Low power idle power-down modes

SMART CARDS• A smart card, chip card, or

integrated circuit card (ICC), is any pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits which can process data or Memory.

• The inside of a smart card usually contains an Embedded Microprocessor or EEPROM (memory) or some times both.

ADVANTAGES OF SMART CARD

• Flexibility• Portability• Increasing data

storage capacity• Reliability • Resistant to electronic and

magnetic fields• Highly secure

GSM • Global system for mobile communication (GSM)

is a globally accepted standard for digital cellular communication.

• GSM rapidly gained acceptance and market share worldwide, although it was initially developed in a European context.

• In addition to digital transmission, GSM incorporates many advanced services and features, including ISDN compatibility and worldwide roaming in other GSM networks.

• The advanced services and architecture of GSM have made it a model for future third-generation cellular systems, such as UMTS.

GSM ARCHITECTURE

GSM ROUTERS

• Analogic’s GSM Smart Module is a multi-functional, ready to use, rugged and versatile modem that can be embedded or plugged into any application.

• The module is fully type-approved and can directly be integrated into your projects with any or all the features of Voice, Data, Fax, SMS, and Internet etc.

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY(LCD)

• Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) have materials which combine the properties of both liquids and crystals.

• Rather than having a melting point, they have a temperature range within which the molecules are almost as mobile as they would be in a liquid, but are grouped together in an ordered form similar to a crystal.

ADVANTAGES OF LCD• Sharpness Image is perfectly sharp at the

native resolution of the panel. LCDs using an analog input require careful adjustment of pixel tracking/phase.

• Brightness High peak intensity produces very bright images. Best for brightly lit environments.

• Screen Shape Screens are perfectly flat.

• Physical Thin, with a small footprint. Consume little electricity and produce little heat.

MAX 232 • Computers can transfer data in two ways:

parallel and serial. • In serial communication, the data is sent

one bit at a time, in contrast to parallel communication, in which the data is sent a byte or more at a time.

• The 8051 has serial communication capability built into it, there by making possible fast data transfer using only a few wires. The PC uses RS 232 as a Serial Communication Standard.

RS 232 STANDARDS• To allow compatibility among data

communication equipment made by various manufacturers, an interfacing standard called RS232 was set by EIA in 1960.

• Today, RS232 is the most widely used serial I/O interfacing standard.

• However, since the standard was set long before the advert of the TTL logic family, its input and output voltage levels are not TTL compatible.

• For this reason, to connect any RS232 to a microcontroller system we must use voltage converters such as MAX232 to convert the TTL logic levels to the RS232 voltage levels.

LATCH• The Microcontroller got a single serial port by

which only a single device can be communicated at a particular instant of time.

• So, in order to communicate with both PC and Smart Card Reader a Latch is used. Latch enables the user to select any one particular device at a particular instant of time by which two devices can be communicated.

• The latch used here is 74LS244.

• This latch will enable us to switch between two devices namely Smart Card Reader and GSM Modem.

Advantages

• More secure than existing technology.

• Low cost.

• Low power consumption
