Background

2

Current ACC FIT Jeopardy competition was introduced by Gautam Kumar, MD, FACC

Current FIT Jeopardy competition solicits three randomly created FIT teams

Large annual audience reveals its popularity

Identified areas of need

Small number of teams (3), limits the number of FIT participation

Random team selection does not engage large audience in the success of the team

Current FIT participation in state/national activities highlights research activities, potentially excluding a large section of FITs

3

Goals and Objectives

Increase FIT engagement and participation in state chapter & national ACC activities

Provide an avenue for clinically-oriented FITs to showcase their talent at ACC events

Promote healthy team dynamics

Promote mentorship for FITs and faculty with development of Jeopardy content

4

Proposed New Jeopardy Competition Format

Two (2)-day competition at national ACC

Day 1: Inter-state chapter competition

(regional) competition

Day 2: Inter-regional competition

5

Proposed New Jeopardy Competition Format

6

Day 2: Final (inter-regional) Jeopardy

Competition

State ACC chapter Jeopardy Competition

Day 1: Regional (inter-state) Jeopardy

Competition

FIT team winner represents state-chapter on Day 1 at annual national ACC meeting

Regional team winners represent region on Day 2 of inter-regional competition

Chapter Expectations

Cost: Audiovisual costs, conference room Equipment: Projector & projector screen,

computer/laptop for PowerPoint, buzzer, timer Question content: State FIT council Volunteers: 3 judges, 3 moderators (FITs), 1

faculty moderator Teams: Institution based (recommended)

7

Planning Number of rounds: Varies w/ number of

teams

Size of teams: Recommend 3 FITs per team

Time allocation: 30 mins (1 round, 16 questions, 4

categories, tie breaker) 1 hour (2 rounds, 32 questions, 8

categories)

8

Question design

Time commitment from state FIT council Estimated time burden to design and create 16

questions for 1 round < 1 day

Difficult part: deciding what categories of questions (echo, clinical trials, cardiac math etc)

Goal: Ownership and autonomy to state chapters Recognize heterogeneity of state chapters

9

National ACC Jeopardy Competition

State Jeopardy team will take part in inter-regional competition

Similar to national ACC poster presentation, travel is the responsibility of the FITs

As public awareness increases, anticipate institutions will provide travel funds for FITs.

Alternatives

What if my state chapter has only one training institution?

What if my state chapter has multiple training institutions?

What if my state chapter doesn’t have an FIT council to create questions?

What if my state chapter has already planned/hosted our 2015 annual meeting?

11

Summary Goal is to increase FIT engagement in state

chapter and national ACC activities

Goal is to promote clinically-oriented FITs who may not necessarily have research activities but are still highly talented

Infancy stage and anticipate on-going modification after initial implementation
