ABSTRACTFrictions stir welding is a relatively new solid state joining process. Over the past decade a lotofresearchhasbeendoneonoptimizationofFSWprocessparametersbyanalysingthemicrostructure and mechanical properties. Large studies were done on Friction stir weldingprocess based on process variables, effect of different tool geometries on weld uality andeffect on different materials. !he main process parameters considered over past studies aretool pin profile, spindle speed and tool traverse speed, but in all past research wor" only theeffect of any one process parameter is considered at a time. Only very few researches wereunderta"enbyconsideringall theaboveprocessparameterssimultaneously.#nthisstudy,three different tool pin were designed and the effect of these pin geometries on themechanical property of the joint were investigated. !he process parameters li"e tool profile,tool rotational speed and traverse speed were considered simultaneously. !he combined effectof these process parameters are studied.!he welded joints were analysed for tensile strength,elasticity and micro$hardness. !aguchi method of design of e%periment is used to optimizethe process parameters for ma%imumvalue of ultimate tensile strengthandpercentageelongation for the weld joint.
