Our Mission is to be about Christ’s work by: welcoming the stranger; celebrating all of life; accepting, forgiving and loving each other; providing a place to grow in mind and spirit; teaching and living the scriptures; seeking and trusting God’s guidance; and serving Christ in all persons.
May 2016
Pentecost Fifty days after Easter, on May 15, we celebrate the birthday of the church! As luck would have it, that same weekend, we celebrate 50 years of Kyle Seage! That’s right - Kyle’s 50th birthday falls on Pentecost weekend. So many 50’s in one weekend must surely be a sign that we need to have a party! Through generous donations from multiple parishioners, St. Philip’s will be throwing a Crawfish Boil Birthday Bash in honor of Pentecost and Kyle’s 50th birthday! After church on May 15, we will gather for our traditional Pentecost picture, and then we will enjoy crawfish, birthday cake, and the music of Bill and Temperance with Jeff Perkins in the Hollow. (Psssst: We are also planning a special gift to St. Philip’s in honor of Kyle’s 50th birthday. Obviously, we cannot disclose that gift here without Kyle seeing it, but if anyone wants to know more about the gift or wants to contribute to the gift and party, please contact Jill Bullard, Machelle Bernheim, or Laura Glaze for more details.) In addition to crawfish, we will serve hamburgers and hotdogs, water, tea, and lemonade. If you prefer other beverages, you are welcome to BYOB. We hope everyone will join us for the big birthday bash!

From your Treasurer As of the end of March 2016, St. Philip’s budgeted receiving Pledge Payments of $97,637, we have actually received $133,520.
Please make every effort to keep your pledge current. A GREAT WAY to stay current with your pledge is to set up an automatic payment! You can use your bank’s online bill pay to send a payment OR you can log in to ACS ACCESS and set up a bank draft from your account to go directly into St. Philip’s account. You will receive an email when each payment has been made.
Godly things are happening at St. Philip’s. Your pledge allows St. Philips to do all that we do. Thank YOU! P.G. Bernheim
IMPORTANT: If you plan to send only one check to pay your pledges (Annual and Capital Campaign), please make a notation on the memo line: amount to post to your annual pledge and amount to post to your capital pledge.
Anniversary Wishes
Page 3 A Letter to the Philippians
Celebration Sunday We did it! On Sunday, May 1, St. Philip’s will celebrate reaching and even exceeding our Be Thou Our Vision Capital Campaign goal! We will dedicate our pledges during church, and then after church, we will have a celebratory potluck. Please bring a dish your family enjoys at times of celebration. If you are so inclined, wear blue – the color of the capital campaign and success – on May 1, but come regardless! We look forward to spending time together in grateful thanksgiving for all God has given us and for the bonds of commitment and fellowship we enjoy at St. Philip’s.
ASCENSION DAY EVENSONG
THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2016
6:00 P.M.
WHAT IS A CHORAL EVENSONG?
DURING THE 16TH CENTURY, ARCHBISHOP THOMAS CRANMER CREATED THE SERVICE OF EVENSONG FOR THE BOOK OF
COMMON PRAYER BY FUSING THE MONASTIC EVENING OFFICES OF VESPERS AND COMPLINE. WHILE THERE IS NO
SERMON, THERE ARE HYMNS, READINGS, ANGLICAN CHANT AND ANTHEMS SUNG BY THE CHOIR.

Greetings from Children’s Christian Education!
Thank you to those who have responded regarding our special activity on Mother’s Day at 9:15 a.m. Weather permitting, we will gather in the courtyard for juice, muffins and enjoy making a memorable gift for our mothers. In preparation for supplies and volunteers, I need an estimate on how many children will be in attendance. If you have not responded, please email me at cjcrump320@bellsouth.net and let me know how many children/grandchildren you will have attending. Thanks in advance for your help!
During the month of May we will have special activities for Mother’s Day and Pentecost before the10:30am service. There will be no Sunday school on Parish weekend. As I ponder my thoughts and feelings of my St. Philip’s hiring a full time clergy person to work with our children, youth and young families, my heart if full knowing the future of children and youth at St. Philip’s will be vibrantly abundant in ways I remember it as a youth in the church. The church was never meant to be the exclusive faith teacher of children. Instead, God’s plan was for the two institutions, church and family, to form a partnership. I see that at my St. Philip’s. As new families have come to us, we as a St. Philip’s family have come together to get them plugged in because we know it provides families with meaningful shared experiences. This is especially true when the whole family participates in events like VBS or summers at Camp Bratton-Green. (make sure you register your child for First Camp/Regular Camp Sessions at CBG) I envision the growth my St. Philip’s children’s programs to possibly include a children’s choir, musical concerts by those in our parish showcasing their talents and individualities, and various fun projects, etc. We should expect children who grow up in our ministries to become leaders in the church and in the world. Children are a blessing from the Lord, and their company livens up our parish families fellowship. The innocence and creativity of children reminds us all that people were created to be holy and happy. As the school year winds down and we settle into a more relaxed schedule, I look forward to helping Leahbeth Turpin and Sarah Ballard for the week of VBS knowing this experience will richly nourish my soul! I am excited that Living The Good News and Catechesis programs will continue for the summer and we will have additional fellow parishioners join us to help in establishing the foundation for our children’s spiritual future. In His grace,

Along with the other three Episcopal Build churches, we will hold this wonderfully fun event. All the proceeds go to funding our next Episcopal Build Habitat house. Habitat Drawdown Silent Auction - We are looking for special items to put in the drawdown silent auction. These items can be anything from art, nice articles for a home, collectables, dinner parties, special experiences, fishing trips, hunts, to weekends at a vacation home or condo. If you have an item that you might be willing to share or donate for a very good cause, the Habitat Drawdown Auction Committee needs you! Donors can include any special notes in the wording that would specify dates available or other parameters of the donation. We also need help to coordinate these silent auction items. If you have questions or would like to offer an item, please contact Bill Burke p: 601-624-3450, e: billy_burke@att.net or Kelly Adams p: 601-209-5346, e: kelladium@gmail.com
