Love is Everywhere Today: Spirit of Love (2 Tim 1:7)

Love is Everywhere – Miley Cyrus Dax Sheppard & Kristen Bell Beibs and Selena We love Hockey, slippers, Fall colours, summer ...

Love is Everywhere ...

On the other hand ... Orlando Bloom & Miranda Kerr“Despite this being the end of their marriage, they

love support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family.”

We love everything and nothing

What is Paul trying to tell us? Covenant ideas of Grace and Truth (John

1:14-17)

1. Grace “By the grace of God I am what I am” (1

Cor. 15:9-10) By grace, he had nothing was given

everything. Paul was so clear about salvation (Eph 2:8-

9)

Spirit of Love – First: God’s love made known to us. The kind of Spirit we have been given – Love

(1 Jn 4:16)

1. Grace Scripture: “Love” not used as it is today:

Not describe how we feel about things Not describe our preferences Not swooshy flutterings, spinal tinglings, ...

Love: Behaviour towards others To GOD: follow him, trust him, obey him ...

NOT saying he is a great guy while I do my own thing. To OTHERS: sacrifice for their benefit; seek

their good.

1. Grace … Encapsulated by the word “GRACE”:

Showing kindness to someone who does not deserve it

Doing extra so that another can do less Loving someone who is not easily lovable Words and actions that build up, encourage, help.

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr: “... Decided NOT to end their marriage because

they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family.”

2. Truth Jesus was full of grace and truth.

An illustration from Scripture (Micah 6:8)“He has shown all you people what is good.

And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. “

3. Truth ... Everyone willing to do at least one or

two: Fight for justice. Right must prevail. Love mercy. Excuse and defend those who

do wrong. Don’t read the text properly:

WE are to “act justly” – do right ourselves. WE are to “love mercy” – gracious to those failing

us, doing wrong Also “walk humbly with God”

NOT expect God to walk humbly with us.

3. Truth ... Spirit of love at work in us –

We understand the grace by which we live in God We live out that character of God in our world.

We live holy and righteous lives We deal graciously with others – word and deed.

NOT cheap grace – built on foundation of truth. Seeks true “Shalom “ for others. Not platitudes and nonsense – like Miranda Kerr’s

publicist.

3. Truth ... False prophets (Jer 8:10-12):

“Peace, peace they say when there is no peace”

Promising peace without truth – people are left with nowhere to go

Proclaim God’s word – They turn from evil ways (Jer 23:22)

Truth offers healing: Makes space for hope Allows for repentance Leads to restoration.

3. Truth ... Jesus was filled with Grace and truth:

Grace alone: “RELAX, the kingdom of God is at hand”

Truth alone: “RUN, the Kingdom of God is at hand” Grace and Truth: “REPENT ...”

God offers forgiveness and restoration to all

To have Spirit of love means we have received GRACE

Transforms us into Image of Christ – Full of Grace & Truth
